I am sure I am not the only person who digs these folks, but I had to mention them, since they have been spinning things off my "radio side" wish/rant list for weeks. I must express my adoration of CKBD in Vancouver, British Columbia. I do not remember ever hearing the nugget "Master Jack" on the radio before they faded in tonight. This is just the latest of many pleasant surprises from this radio station. They have a "retro" based format, but they explore soundtracks, rhythm & blues, country and jazz as well as the pop and rock hits from the 1950s through the 1970s. It is quite similar in format to a station that I would run if I had my druthers. The music selection is very well thought out and arranged in unique, yet perfect sets with no repetition that I can detect. The bonus is the gorgeous Canadian content rule that gives extra helpings of artists unappreciated south of the border. If it is VT, then they are doing a darn fine job of sounding fresh and live whenever I have tuned in. They seem to draw from a very deep well of songs and they also have quite a few different folks in the line-up. Since I do not stream, but enjoy them on the air, I can only vouch for the overnighters, Olga Edwards, Chris Coburn and Gary Thomas -- who is on right now. I really like the folks on this station and the music is first rate. It's funny, I enjoyed them years ago when they were CISL. When I filed a reception report, I got the biggest package from an AM ever. A ton of stickers, a coverage map, and a bunch of other goodies. The best part was that it included a really nice QSL letter from the Head Engineer. I have some boxes to dig through, but I bet I still have it. Right now, "Me and My Arrow" is skipping along... Heaven. For the moment, losing KISN hurts a little bit less.
