It's a stepping stone for sure.

Call it the starter / re-entry job. You say "yes" get hired, network your ass off and make that step before you either go nuts, or they find a cheaper sucker to exploit.

---or you use your excellent people skills to slowly redefine this position, show value and push some of the crap off onto others and become part of the culture that created this mess in the first place!

Yeah, have fun with that.

Seriously, though - KHaRD? was that the best choice? You have to wonder what people were smoking when they came up with some of these station calls. Like one of, if not the first station in Oregon (KLIT) how did no one stop that guy from putting those genius calls out there for all to see?

"Clit" is slang and not at word. It's short for "Clitoris". In 1927 that slang meaning might not have been known. The calls were named after the owner: Lewis Irvine Thompson.

Thank you Dr. Adams! I said it partially in jest, but I seriously doubt that the slang "Clit" wasn't known back then!

We can add that to the list.

Florence Henderson gave us "Wessonality", and we can thank the lovely Jaquel7 for her "intentionality."

A lot of times you see those kind of job descriptions (like the Redding job that opened this thread) due to legal reasons, so the employee can't even think about a lawsuit if they get fired for not knowing exactly what their job is. OR, perhaps that company had a recent experience with someone who was canned or quit because they claim they were never told exactly what their job involved.

Regardless, here's another recent one...much shorter job description, but my bet just as much multi-tasking!

Multi-tasker needed in Southern Oregon!
New Northwest Broadcasters of Klamath Falls, Oregon has an opening for a multi-talented person to join our cluster. The ideal candidate will be our mid-day host on our heritage country station, KLAD. This person will also take care of afternoons on our CHR, Hot 102.9. Community involvement is a must, and you cannot be afraid to be personal with our listeners. What else could you bring to our team? Promotions experience? Web maintenance? I DO NOT need someone who can voice-track from anywhere other than here. We are a group of local stations and have a local staff! I DO NOT want a link to a website, I want a package sent to me, via email or snail mail, you decide. No calls please. Females are encouraged to apply. NNB is EOE!

Hmm, I remember when that was four different jobs! Now, all in one! Good luck...

New Northwest Broadcasters has provided some of the best radio programming that Klamath Falls has seen.
It's rare to find a true CHR format in a market of this size.

Maybe true, but looks like they are also trying to do the most with the least. I guess just business reality in '07. Wonder what they are willing to pay this "multi-tasking star"? My guess would be just enough to afford a 1-BR apartment in KF, which isn't that much really.

In KF? Not likely. Educated guess...subtract about 16K (atleast) from that. Again, just a guess based on working in Oregon radio for 7 of the past 10 years... but heck, maybe they will find their multi-tasking superstar who is willing to work for that. Afterall, some, young, talented broadcasters are hungry and willing to do what it takes. But if they have any talent whatsoever, they won't spend much more than a year in the market. Then where are you? That's right...back where you started. As Yackov Smirnoff once was quoted, "what a great country!"
