I know, way off the wall, but I'm just wondering.

I use an electric razor, from time to time, but largely just go with some reasonable disposable razors that pivot, and some basic cream.

Bang for the buck, this really works well, but is there better alternatives out there?

When it gets really bad, as in I've let it go, I'll break out one of Mrs. KSKD's Venus razors, then toss it because she can tell! Guess guy face hair just does a razor in to a higher degree than girl leg hair --even though more shaving is done!

Hey, those Venus razors are the way to go. Good for other parts of the body too if that's your bag, but there are ultra-conservatives on this forum so I'll keep them unmentioned so we don't raise Rev. Falwell from his grave.

I've been using the Gillette Sensor for the almost 20 years I've been shaving ... including my head, for the last 12 years.

I've had an electric razor, I never cared for the shave and the blades dulled out WAY too quick.

I also have really sensitive skin, so I need to use some kind of heavy-duty cream with aloe in it so my head doesn't break out when I shave it.

And I always use a little Neosporin after shaving my armpits, when I do.

Duck Tape.....saves a lot of expense as a whole roll can last a month and only costs $1.99! That'll wake you up....yowzer's! The little tiny ones right under your noze tend to make your eye's water though when you yank them!

In the shower, with a disposable, just soap. But then again, I have a wimpy beard, so it's not too bad.

Ditto on the shower and soap.

But then again I only shave a little on my cheeks and under my chin.

Have had a beard since January 1975!

Mrs. Skybill and the kids have never seen me without one. (And we've been married 23 years!)

Main reason for the beard; I'm too lazy to shave every day!

Missing- There is a better alternative, at least one that works for me. I shave my head and all facial hair save for my 'stache. Been using the standard Gillette Mach 3 for several years with various gels, creams and foams.

Then I discovered shaving oil! The brand I use is "Shave Secret." Just wet the area to be shaved, apply a few drops to your palms and work it in - in my case a few drops onto the face and a few drops to the scalp. No need to rinse it off afterwards, it's good for the skin and leaves a faint clove fragrance (not for long).

I get great shaves and my blades last longer - I used to be lucky to get 2 shaves from a cartridge - now I get 3 or 4 (depending how long I've gone between shaves).

The temptation is to use too much - those few drops just don't look like enough to do the job - but believe it or not, they are.

Best shaves I have ever had were the old school style ones that this old Itallian man on Federal Hill in Providence, RI would give after his haircuts absolutely great. I hear that Oscar's Salon in Salem-Keizer does the same for only $5.

Other wise its just the steam of a hot shower and a disposable bic razor. No need for shaving gel, oil, or creams. And at 31 although I get the 5 o'clock shadow, I still have that smooth youthful skin.

On that score, check this Onion article out:

It's a freaking classic. It's also spot on as the company mentioned did indeed do 5 blades not 6 months after it was published! You just know somebody handed it to the CEO and he took the challenge!

Ouch! I just shaved a 4-inch piece of skin off my ankle from laughing while using my pretty blue Venus.

However, I used Mr. M's Gillette Fusion the other day, and it was awesome. He didn't even notice, or at least didn't say anything. Maybe I should change the Venus cartridge more often than once every 3 months? But I'm already in the shower when I think about it.

Goddess in the shower stall
Burning like a slice of razor burn
The summit of shavin' and love
And Venus was her name

She's got it
Yeah, baby, she's got it
I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your hair-free desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your shaved-up desire

Her weapons were her brand new blades
Making every man a man
foamy as the dark night she was
Got what no-one else had
Wa!

Smooth hairless armpits, yeah Baby she's got it!

How do you shave??

I don't. I had laser hair removal done on my entire body! Although it was costly, it was well worth the money. I have no hair on my body except the hair on my head!! It feels very liberating being hair free.
My butt-cheecks were even zapped of all hair, which is great because incase you don't know, cheeks can be hairy also.
I've been hair free for almost 2 years, and like Mcdonald's says......."I'm LOVIN IT""""

Excess body hair is DIRTY and gross!! My neighbor was walking out the door the other day without his shirt on and he looked like a gurilla from the back. He had a sweater of hair on his back! A little back hair is ok, but If you're sporting a sweater than its time to shave or get waxed!

SmoothBuns,

Are you a swimmer or cyclist? If you're serious, can you tell me more? How many visits did it take? I'd love to do my legs and armpits, I absolutely hate shaving, and always have.

Did it hurt? Do you have anybody you highly recommend? How outrageous is the cost?

It's just hair people!

I do wonder about the cost though. Kind of defines what hair might be worth, in a morbid way.

You have 7-8 Treatments spread out within 6 months.
It does not hurt, although it does hurt the pocket book a little. Just AN FYI, YOU CAN BARGIN WITH THEM. These places are in it to make money, so they will start you off with some ridiculous price, THATS When you say," Well Im going to keep shopping because I can find it lower at another place.
They will usually give in, and you can bargin with them.
It is also very embarrassing. Having my pubic area lasered was a bit much. I asked if I could borrow a fig leaf. HA! The woman laughed, the sad part was, I was being serious. I need something to cover my junk.
I got my body hair lasered because I hate body hair, and I have WAAAAAY too much of it. I don't ride bikes, Im not a swimmer, I'm not gay, i just don't like body hair.
Its been over a year since I was lasered and no hair has grown back, except for some light Peach fuzz that is white in color. I used to have really dark body hair, so the peach fuzz doesn't really bother me.

The shaving oil sounds like a good idea. I will have to look for some. It reminds me of one of Dr. Bill Wattenberg's tips: to make razor blades last longer, put some oil on the edges. The oil is supposed to delay the onset of rusting. I don't know whether or not this is really applicable to stainless steel blades.

Some time ago, I picked up a four-pack of Noxema razors at Safeway for less than $5; these are triple edge razors with an aloe strip. My reason for buying these was that the cost per razor was pretty low, but I suspected that they would shave more smoothly than the budget 12-pack BIC razors that come in a bag. A 12-pack of razors would literally last me for several years, so I consider that overkill. Once one gets past the fruity appearance of the razors (they were intended for women), it is easy to appreciate the quality of the shave that they give.

I like the classic old school chrome and steel metal razor that you crank open and put in a double edged replacement. When it gets dull, you simply spin it around and eventually change it out. One blade does not peel me like a carrot, it simply makes the beard go away. To complete my effective, and antique approach, I also love shaving soap and a brush, but Dr. Bronner's mint is fantastic too.
