Yet, they have been advertising for what seems like forever for talent, and even run a banner ad along with mooooooovin Dallas on AA.... Why waste the time? Pull the frickin trigger and put a staff in there, or forget it. Maybe they are waiting to see if Seattle and other moooooovin are trending up before commiting, but it still sounds like they are clueless and uncommitted to the concept. To me if you flip, then promote the hell out of it and build a success. Don't dangle a new format and hope it catches on. Radio on the cheap is usually a failure!

It's not just the radio industry - this is now a standard practice. For whatever reason, they're not interested in contacting the applicant any further for any reason. I've also heard that people who complain about 'lack of professionalism' are considered less desirable to perspective employers. Just move on.

Who did you hear that from, a professional? So these "Prospective Employers" don't have time to extend a little common courtesy, especially in an age where so much contact is transmitted via email? I guess you are right. Since so many people no longer are taught basic people skills like courtesy and politeness, then you can't expect people who lack those skills to extend them... I have to agree. Move on. You whiners don't want to work for an employer who consider you less desirable. Remember in today's world it's GIMME, GIMME, GIMME... ME, ME, ME FIRST, Then ME AGAIN... I have mine, screw you... The following word are now obsolete.......... groovy.... gnarly.... please.... thank you.... Sir.... Madam or Ma'am.... "lack of professionalism" I guess it is a phrase subject to interpetation.

I can't help but agree with this. And this is not being professional, it's being a solid, decent person, who happens to be doing professional grade work. Somewhere that all got turned around backwards --into some entitlement, made from thin air --just like the money that comes along for the ride. Since we abandoned the gold standard, our currency is essentially valued on trust. It is a promise to return value on demand, in exchange for greater ease of doing business in the first place. Seeing as how dollars are the life-blood of business, shouldn't the foundation of what dollars really mean be there too --or do we just somehow forget that part, and hope nobody notices? (And people wonder why the value of the dollar is falling... there are political reasons for this, but there are simple and basic human reasons for this too. Those are the ones I'm posting about here.) If there isn't time to engage people in a solid way, perhaps there isn't time for a lot of things. Not a decent potential employer, IMHO. That all cuts both ways. This world is what we make of it. I encourage all of you to vote with your feet. Doing otherwise is just not worth it. I am a professional. Active, gainfully employed and I say my please and thank yous. I do follow up on queries, and expect to be followed up on. Did it ever occur to anyone that if there really is not time to exchange with others, said query is lazy in and of itself? Believe me when I say I think hard sometimes about how I want to go about bringing new people into the fold, or purchasing services, products, etc... I don't want to waste a lot of others time, just to shave some of my costs. Looking for a job, requesting quotes for services, purchasing products, etc... are not lottos. There is a cost associated with these things. Composing the query takes time, materials, bandwidth, etc... That cost applies to all parties, doesn't it? Consuming others, in a wasteful or lazy manner, really boils down to a minor theft, IMHO. Forming solid business relationships is important for a reason. There isn't time to just query everybody all the time, for everything, just looking for the best deal, on the cheap always. So, we establish trust relationships so that all parties know the business being done is being done in a solid way that mutually benefits both parties. Still think this does not matter? Look at all the money being spent on machines toward the goal of having them handle these things! That's all find and good, and should be encouraged as we own the machines and they work for us. But we don't own people in like kind, though a lot of companies like to think so. When I don't get solid exchanges in return, I remember and I do vote with my feet. I also take some time to avoid wasting others time. No job, no amount of money is worth lowering ones simple standards of decency and just being human. Holding true to ones principles is sometimes not easy. My own experience involves changing jobs, careers, going hungry, etc... Guess what? I really didn't live any less when all is said and done. Sometimes I think people are just spoiled and lazy. I'm just not gonna go there, and I don't care what it actually means, work wise. I used to, got put to the test and learned it really was not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. My years in manufacturing taught me something elementary that appears to apply in more places in life than I thought at the time; namely, "There is always time to do it right the first time." The rush to get yours, mine, make money, etc... is really an excuse for walking this world in a state of detached indifference. Yeah, that's PC for lazy and uncaring. It's all about finding reasons to not do it right the first time and push the blame off onto others. At the end of the day, there is time to exchange with others properly. Period, end of story. Anyone that pressures any of us to believe otherwise is just making excuses. What those excuses are really does not matter. Could be "Cost", or "Process", etc... Who cares? I personally believe surrendering these things is nothing short of getting paid to devalue ones own self. We've words for that, and they are not pretty. Sadly, people have prices too. Sometimes they are fairly low. Go figure.

If I'm looking at the 12+ ratings correctly, it seems their numbers for the current format are just above the last book of the 80s Hits format and increasing albeit at a snail's pace. If the ratings for the demographic they are chasing is following a similar form, they may not be in that bad a shape. They really need 2 more books to see whether or not this is working for them.

Movin does not have a morning show Movin has only 1 live jock A Very stale playlist No Contests, no nothing! It seems to me that they have given up on the station, They are not spending any money on it because they already know its a failure. If they really wanted to win the ratings race, they would be putting moe effort into the station. They would have a bigger staff, they would be doing contests and having fun. That station continues to brag about how the station is all about having fun and making you feel good, yet it is by far the most boring, bland station on the fm dial! I feel bad for Stacey, who is a great talent but is stuck on a station with zero potential to go anywhere. When management could care less about a station, you're pretty much on your own, and its quite apparent that CBS has given up on Movin.

DJ Fresh: Did your show beat Z100? Jammin'? Movin'? If not, stop flaming them and either send your cover letter, resume, and demo; all explaining how adding you to their station would benefit them, -or- just stop bashing them. Too many folks have royally messed themselves up because they underestimated the power of this website. Roger (response to pre-DJ Fresh posts): When I was in high school (mid-90s), we were told to expect that we would be demanded to be as courteous as possible, but don't expect a reply from companies that aren't interested, because they have better things to do with their time.

Placing a want ad implies interest. A qualified applicant should expect, at the very least, a response of receipt of materials submitted. That is the courtesy, not a critique of submitted materials, not an explaination of why or why not the application was rejected, just a simple form letter thanking the applicant for their interest. Anything less shows a lack of respect and professionalism.

Also if you decide to send anything via Email, please realize this is not the best method and many corporate mail filter's may sideline it and the recipient may never even get it in the first place and therefore no reply in return. Snail mail is still the best option when sending anything to any prospective employer. Include a "This is to Acknowledge That I, ____________, Have Recieved Your Package for Consideration" pre-printed letter and a postage paid envelope with the material and I bet you would. Make it easy for them to reply to receiving your goods!

Thanks to all that replied to my post! I suppose it proves that there is still a bond between air talents/programmers. That's really cool I think. Just wanted to answer some by saying that they requested applications and airchecks via email. They clearly need some talent on the station, I am qualified to judge that. I've worked at several great stations and could clearly help them have better ratings. So, it IS odd that they'd just pretend I didn't apply and say nothing. It's just kind of a strange way to do... business.

Egor. It is highly likely that any email sent with an attachment would have wound up in a corporate mail filter. Good practice to request a read receipt when sending something of this nature. Sure they can choose not to send the response but there it is....just as easy just to send the reply. Anyway unless people check their mail filters for good messages you'll never get a response.
