Monday night during CSI I witnessed a KINK commercial. WOW....prime-time during a top rated TV show. Someone spent some bucks on that one. Very subtle and interesting commercial! Unlike the booty shaking in your face Movin commercials, I did not change the channel! Anyone else catch it?

I saw it last night and my wife and I both commented "where's the True to the Music thing"? The whole spot featured nothing but "cool" people in downtown Portland, sublimely suggesting that only "cool hip" people who choose to live in downtown Portland are KINK listeners and those of us that are still "true to the music" are hicks who live in Aloha or Hillsboro or whatever city you choose to fill in the blank. It was catchy though.

You may be overthinking the "cool" angle, and I don't think it was intended to convey that only cool people are downtown. I don't live downtown, and I certainly don't feel the ad was condescending.

Was the background music for the ad "Tree Top Flyer"? Goo Goo Dolls? Creepy-looking John Mayer? Matchbox 20? Jewel? Cool. Hip. Include me (still) out.

Is KINK getting their weather and other features from that station? Trade out? We run 20 of your ads you run 1 of ours?

DIDn't kink used to be an interesting station that played cool music that you wouldn't hear on every other radio station?? I actually enjoyed Kink in the late 80's and early 90's. But I can't help but laugh when I turn the station on today. The music is absolutely HORRIBLE! Nothing but Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls. There is nothing unique about the music they play, its boring, stale and nothing like it was 10 years ago.

Heres a thought that someone once stated and I am going to repeat. What if it is not radio that is changing but it is us? "nothing like it was 10 years ago" Well I doubt you are like you were 10 years ago as well. Is it possible that you outgrew them? I mean doesn't a station have to change music every so often in order to keep in pace with their target audience rather than grow older with them? Is the music they play popular with people 10 years your junior? I submit that as our tastes and preferences change so must our choice in radio stations! Just a thought to ponder!

I agree prety much with what Darktemper just stated. KINK is catering to today's listeners. Yea I have to say KINK was better even 30 yrs ago with great jazz album reviews acoustic music ect. While I appreciate yester year, I'm not sure as I want to keep reliving my past. I bought a lot of cds thinking that Id keep them forever. Well guess what I've given a lot to Goodwill et al. Just like the old top 40 it's ok to get a kick out of it for a time but with me the novelty wears off. Help me am I normal? BTW, I'm in Tacoma didn't see Kink ad ''Tower Of Power sum it up,,,,,''What's hip today might become passe''

The old "Kink fm 102...True to the Music" positioner is no longer being used. It's now simply: kink.fm It sounds like they're betting on the internet as the future of radio.

Yes, and it helps to be "true to the music" if you are going to position that way.
