Am I alone, or do a couple of green olives add a nice accompaniment to any beer? I'm addicted to 'em and now refuse to drink a beer without those little green gems!

Probably works best with the usual american brews, 'cause it adds much needed flavor. But I've also had nice results with some micros. Experiment! And then experiment again! How's that for a Friday night attitude?

I like it! I just got some good 'ol fashioned Budweiser. The olives add a nice subtle flavor, that does indeed enhance the taste of the beer! Earlier tonight I had sauted some jalapeños, I put a couple pieces in my beer, which I do not recommend, they didn't really add anything, and the texture of the jalapeños, was very disturbing after soaking in beer for a bit. The olives rocked, though!

You could put anything in Budweiser (and I do mean anything) and it would improve the taste. And this is coming from someone who grew up in St. Louis! A long time ago I thought "If Augie doesn't brew it, it's not good beer” Now it's "If Augie brews it, it's not good beer" Augie = August Busch in case anyone was wondering. On the other hand, I've never met a Deschutes beer I didn't like!!

I mainly chose B-weiser, because of it's lack of flavor and body, I wanted to see if I could actually taste the olives, and notice what they had to offer. I'm thinking of trying Mirror Pond next, or Cascade Ale. With the bud, 3 olives and a shot of tobasco, and you are set! PS, how 'bout those Cardinals?

Go Cards! I'll root for the Mariners as an AL team, but it's always the Cardinals for a NL team and the World Series! I really wish we'd get a professional baseball team out here.

I agree with that! If that idiot governor of ours had ok'd the proposal by one of local Indian tribes to fund a baseball stadium, in exchange for the right to build a casino in Portland city limits, we would have a pretty decent shot at getting a team. It also doesn't help that Tom Potter is a baseball hating screwball...

In one of the other threads a while back, someone mentioned that they should put a stadium up by the Clark County Amphitheatre. I think that would be a good idea!

That's an interesting idea. I don't see how it could happen though, with how insanely difficult it has been for the Sonics to get new arena financing in place, I don't see how Washingtonians would possibly go for a second major league ball park. It could only happen with 100% private funding. Still, an interesting idea.

Well the Sonics really only have themselves to blame. KeyArena was a dump the day the doors opened, woefully inadequate ... and that was only 12 years ago! I'm a HUGE sports fan, and a Seattle-area sports fan to boot ... but this is getting ridiculous here. I know the team makes no money due to no luxury suite revenues and no parking, and they are locked into a brutal lease ... but how is some maverick and his cohorts swooping in from Oklahoma City, buying the franchise, and rattling its sabers about how they "want to keep them in Seattle" (which I don't buy for a SECOND) supposed to keep the masses coming to the games, to watch a team that has had horrific personnel decisions and absolutely NO impact in the free-agent market for the last decade, and the ONE good asset they let walk 180 miles south to Portland in Nate McMillan? I'd LOVE to see baseball in Portland ... but it will never happen I am afraid. The people here refuse to do what it takes to make it happen, despite not only the positive economic impact it will have on the city and region, but the positive impact on the city as a whole. Portland will mean more to the business world, to others who view us as nothing more than a podunk, fleece-wearing hippie town. It'll give Portland some traction ... but again, I don't see the climate being positive for it.

Pdxdc, glad the green olives were to your taste. Maybe we can start a whole new PDXradio trend. And I truely believe those olives, most likely with the help of the beer, may have started everyone talking about sports! Not a bad thing at all!

Bloody Beers or Red Beers for breakfast. Pounder of American beer with a small can of tomato juice or spicy V-8. Garnish with the olives and maybe some pickled green beans and a few drops of Tapitio or Chulo hot sauce.

Is it bad, that this morning when I woke up, I started thinking about other things to try in beer? One thing I want to try next, are those little pearl onion they use in gimlets. I like the idea of the bloody beer! As ashamed as I am to admit to seeing this movie, the first time I heard of a bloody beer was in Jerry Maguire. Beau Bridges character made them in one scene.

From 1999 to 2002 my father and I owned the Monitor Inn in rural Woodburn. The farmer/old boys club couldn't get enough of there Blitz and juice. We sold Campbell's Tomato, Snappy Tom (forgot about that one), spicy V8, and Clamato. And these farmers were more passionate about their Blitz than most micro fans are. They hoarded the Blitz when it started to disappear. We would search high and low for anybody who was selling Blitz in the final days just to feed there habit. They would literally take it off our hands as we brought the halfracks into the tavern. Crazy shit. Even crazier was that a couple of guys died and they were buried with full tall boys of Blitz. Crazy fuckin shit. After trying to decide which beer was going to be there new favorite (It took a couple of months for them to decide going through Hamms, and Rainer) before settling on PBR. Sad thing is that I have only been back once since we sold the place. One of the toughest moments of my life. I thought for awhile that I was gonna die there. Its funny how you can really become attached to a business venture.

merkin said Melted Big Gulp™ Crystal Light™ Slurpee. Virgin. OH MERKIN! You have brought back really bad memories. As a kid growing up, my parents forced us to drink Crystal Light instead of real lemonade. The nutrasweet in Crystal Light always upset my stomach and gave me a bad case of gas. Plus I try to stay away from products that use artificial sweetners because its been shown to give tumors to mice. Granted I'm not a mouse, But damn I've been craving a lot of cheese lately.

Hey Buns. For the ultimate in nasty, try a coupla bean burritos, followed by shell fish, then your favorite booze. I don't know that it gets any worse. For people you know, who are dog owners, the bean burrito can exact some foul revenge for a day or so. Just feed a coupla them to the dog, three hours before evening time. If they keep their dog indoors, they won't that evening!
