I was listening to Rick Emerson today and heard him say that Mark Marshall passed away. He was only 46. This bummed me out. I do not work in the radio business, but I remember Mark Marshall's voice and hearing him do news and traffic updates from various stations.

Individual posts can be removed or edited within 180 minutes at the "Edit Profile" link, but only the moderator can dump a whole thread, which is probably no biggie for him to do.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having two threads for Mark. I don't work in radio and never met the man, but I do remember his voice on the radio, and I am sad to hear of his passing. He seems to have touched a lot of people in the biz.

It's truly amazing, all the stations he broadcast for.

Someone ought to compile a list. It would be massive. God bless Mark.

Here's a listing of stations Mark Marshall was on. This list is nowhere complete.

KWBY, KLYC, KOTK, KWJJ-FM, KXL & KUIK.

Craig, I believe he may have worked at KCYX in 1980 under his real name Mark Hokit. I'm not sure of that, but when we first purchased KCYX, I believe he was there as a part timer, at least.

Perhaps you're including that under KLYC.

When I worked overnights in Billings, I used to call JJ's 800 number to say hi to Mark. Great guy. My prayers are with him and his family.

Deane: You know, I thought I remembered Mark "Hokit"s name from somewhere! I'm going to look at some of the old KCYX phone sheets.

I've been E-Mailed that Mark worked at KWRC Woodburn, not KWBY as was posted earlier.

Also been told Mark worked at some Oregon Coast stations. Anyone know which ones?

Deane: Looked at 4 old KCYX phone lists and didn't see Mark but I don't have one for 1980. Could be old Norm didn't put one out. Mike Kolb might remember, he has PD at the time.

We took over the station approximately June 1, 1980.

I remember Mark wearing a black T-shirt that said "they must think we're mushrooms, the keep us in the dark and feed us bullshit".

Hi, this is Mark's wife Cindy. I thought I'd jump on here and add the stations I can remember.
I think it would be fun it find out all of them.

Okay
I really believe he did work for KWBY before it went spanish and even possibly with other call letters. I believe that he did work under his real name for a short time when he started in radio. He also used Mark Bishop for an even shorter time in Corvallis.
KCKX, KLYC, KYKN, KOTK, KUIK, KXL, KBZY, KWJJ
two different stations in Albany, one in Madras and one in Astoria, with Metro he has been heard on several more along with a tv channel, he was on tv for awhile announcing some wrestling.
On KOTK he was the co-host for "Dining Out" and continued when the station changed, he also was heard quite a bit on the Ed Tyll Show.
I know there has to be more that I have missed.

Sent an E-Mail to my old KCYX buddy Jim Maass. Jim worked at KMCM & KCYX under owner Norm Aldred. Jim does not remember Mark Hokit. Jim left KCYX in April or May 1980. So there's a good chance Deane hired Mark after June. Norm wasn't hiring new air talent at the time, since he was so close to selling KCYX to Deane.

Cindy-

I didn't know Mark but it looks like many of my broadcasting sisters and brothers did. I'm sorry our paths never crossed. Sounds like Mark was one of the good guys in our industry.

Prayers for you and your family.
