"One of XM's two birds failed Monday, taking XM's service dark or at least seriously spotty over much of the eastern U.S. Fortunately - since you can't just send a tower-climber up to check out what's wrong - XM does have spares for each of its primary satellites. Those would be the original "Rock" and "Roll" satellites from XM's initial launch, and one of those is now being pressed into replacement duty while XM figures out what to do next."

It hasn't been approved. There's all sorts of red tape to go through with any merger of any company...particularly one that will create a monopoly.
