Why is the President not wearing his seat belt on his own ranch a big deal? The press is just a bunch of scum sucking vultures. The NJ Governor wasn't wearing his seat belt when his driver was going 90+ mph on a public highway and crashed nearly killing the Governor. He is now doing a PSA on TV about how dumb it was. All that being said, this big push for "Click it or Ticket" is stupid. They say, "Oh we are doing it because we care about your safety" To that I say; "B.S." It is 100% revenue driven. If they are so concerned about your and my safety, why then can you ride a motorcycle without a helmet in many states, but you can't drive your automobile without your seat belt? As I said, it's all about how much money they can extract from us. Anyone that tells you different is jerking your chain!

Damn right Skybill - government takes, and takes, and takes. They say "Oh we're looking out for what is best for you, trust us" but they have their own agenda to line their pockets, damn the middle class guy just trying to get by. You gotta agree, their head honch Bush is the worst at this.

Skybill, It is about money, but I assume, when you say "revenue", you're suggesting it's about the revenue generated from citations. I disagree with that. It's about saving the insurance companies money. If it was about revenue from tickets, I doubt you'd see an ad warning people. The ad is likely to DECREASE revenue, if people heed the ad's warning.

There is at lest 2 states without seat belt laws, I dont know how many let you ride a motorcycle without a helmet, but its not many. Seat belt laws save lifes and money, as do helmet laws. As a society we make tradeoffs between the economy and lifes all the time. We could lower the national speed limit to 35 mph, and save a lot of lives, but that would also cost a lot of money.

Shane, You are correct. The "Click it or Ticket" campaign is driven by the Federal Government and I'm sure can be linked back to the Insurance industry. They threaten to withhold Federal Highway funds if they don't enforce the seatbelt laws, the same way they did back when we had the 55 mph speed limit. I'd bet a top notch steak dinner that the push can be traced back to the insurance companies (as you mentioned). I'm sure that there were big fat campaign contributions from the Insurance lobby to a bunch of crooks, scratch that, I mean politicians. Nwokie, I found this about helmet laws Nineteen States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico require helmet use for all motorcycle operators and passengers. In another 28 States, only those under a certain age, usually 18, are required to wear helmets. Three States do not have laws requiring helmet use. And I found this about seatbelt laws; Last State Without Seat-Belt Law May Reconsider Day to Day, May 24, 2007 • Legislators in New Hampshire may soon require everyone to wear seat belts, but a lot of politicians think drivers should continue to make their own decisions. New Hampshire is the only state in the nation that doesn't require all drivers to buckle up. Its state slogan? "Live Free or Die." Damn insurance companies. They are only one step above lawyers!

too bad there wasn't an airbag deployment in bush's truck. without a seatbelt, bush might become brain dead thereby improving his decision making. call me awful if you want, but as president, he ought to lead by example. an bloody example of not buckling up by the president will result in a lowered vehicle death rate in this country.
