PELOSI LOWERS THE BOOM
From drudgereport.com
Wed May 16 2007 14:43:59 ET

After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.

The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

Weenies.

Sounds to me like Pelosi is leading. When push comes to shove, it's not a GOP show any more. Either deal, or get out of the way right? That's exactly what the GOP did.

If it's good for the GOP, it's good for the Dems right?

Looks like a bunch of whining about the GOP having lost authority to me.

If Ms. Pelosi were indeed in charge, she would lead from the front. For a whole host of reasons she is incapable of so leading.

Now instead, she's attempting to silence any view different from her own. Gee, whatever happened to her statement that she's the speaker of the entire house? Remember this the next time you accuse conservatives of being fascist.

Silencing the opposition is a mainstay of the liberals. She also wants to do away with the fairness doctrine. Liberalism cannot thrive in the sunshine.

Herb, why doesn't Fox news have the story.

It might be just another Drudge exaggeration.

Please don't blame the messenger for Ms. Pelosi's misdeeds, Radioblogman.

Besides, if it were ever found to be untrue, the left-leaning media would have a field day.

Deane: "She also wants to do away with the fairness doctrine."

I thought the libs want to restore the Fairness Doctrine.

Same thing applies to the so-called Conservative Republicans - just look at how they ran the last Congress. Look at how the Bush Administration tolerates open debate: there is none. But for some reason, lack of "sunshine" on the right side doesn't bother you, now, does it Deane? It's pefectly fine with you if your side does it; how DARE the other side use your tactics, eh???

Since you say it's fine for Ms. Pelosi to squash debate, then don't hand-wring when Mr. Bush is accused of the same thing.

Whine on.

Didn't say it was fine for her to do anything, Herb. I just said it's interesting that Deane doesn't care how much Republicans stifle speech - only when he thinks Democrats are doing it.

"Didn't say it was fine for her to do anything, Herb."

So which is it? Are you going to continue to excuse her actions? Or will you step up and actually go on the record to distance yourself from her ham-fisted tactics?

I think we all saw this coming. An inept GOP President with a Democrat controlled congress equals a train wreck. At least with the scenario being played out in DC currently.

I think Herb has his gridlock but I wouldn't be proud of it. I think the moderates on both sides are being overshadowed and frankly overtaken. It seems anytime they speak out they get shut out.

It's disgusting watching this play out with no real movement happening. That's why Ron Pauls comments are so refreshing to me.

Don't talk to the troll and hard core conservatives, they've just been handed another bowl of crow and its not polite to talk with a mouth full of food.

How do the Republicans do this? Did they try to turn Air America off? Do they try to shut down CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC? Which free speech are they trying to stifle?

Naw, Deane. The democrats just twist in the wind due to their own incompetence.

Give 'em a little competition like Fox News and they fold like a cheap tent. Mr. O'Reilly's cable program alone outdistances some left-leaning broadcast programs.

I haven't considered what's been happening inside Congress too carefully, so I will reserve judgement for now. I've never been a huge Nancy Pelosi fan and she wouldn't have been my first choice for speaker. Still, I'm thrilled to have her in there instead of Dennis Hastert.

If Pelosi blows it, she won't be re-elected or the Dems will lose control of the House in 2008 - it's as simple as that. But it seems that you and Deane haven't considered that the Republican Congress was so hopelessly corrupt that the Democrats could get away with a lot and still seem like boy scouts by comparison.

Silencing the opposition is a mainstay of the EXTREME RIGHT. They made it a practice in DUHbya's first term when they controlled everything..... Now that the dog and pony show is over the EXTREME RIGHT is hand wringing and crying.....

On a high level, look at Rove and Gonzales. Diminishing the vote where they can, focusing on a heavy Democratic part of the nation is worth bonus points!

On a lower level, Not allowing hearings, draconian committee control (and they are whining about that now), etc..

From there, the closer you look, the uglier it gets.

Pretty disparate Missing. The Dems want to cut off conservative talk radio from the masses, essentially stopping the Constitutional right to free speech in America, and all you can come up with on the Republican side is Rove and Gonzales doing something, exactly what is not explained. And, something about not allowing hearings. Lame.

Not disparate at all, just not gonna write a book about it today.

You and I were both here, watching the GOP control government with an iron fist, going so far as to call any solid opposition to anything obstructionist. We are both here now watching what remains of those asses complain about not being able to gridlock and oppose today. And they have diminished control, not no control to boot!
