From All Access:

LA Radio.com writes about money woes at Music of Your Life. Financial issues have resulted in some Los Angeles veterans leaving the Adult Standards network. Gone are PD Chuck Southcott, OM Karl Southcott, and now Wink Martindale. Gary Owens is only doing weekends now.

Wink Martindale joined The Music of Your Life in 1996.

It's a shame to see this operation in trouble. This is a pop standards service which airs only on secondary and tertiary AM stations around the country. It's tough to sell it because of the older demos. MOYL is a wonderful format, but XM, Sirius, Comcast and others offer narrowcasted music services which should survive better. Wink, time for more tooth whitener!

Yes,

We had "Music of Your Life" on one of our AM stations here once. During a good deal of the 90s. The station had a 5.3, 25 to 54 when they pulled the flush handle !

And the sales department couldn't sell it ! They changed it in 2002 or 03 to CNN SPORTS !

A 5.3 share in the Tri-Cities isn't exactly the same as the same number in New York! What was their position and how far were they from #1?

True ...

I cant remember exactly thier position from number 1 but it was probably something like a 7 or 8 in rankors, but in the top 10, which for here is still considered 'OK'.

Too bad.

I seriously enjoy this format from time to time. It sets a great mood. I'm way outside the demo too.

I don't know what the situation is now, but I can remember when being #10 was WAY below where anyone would want to be, even in Portland! It's all relative.

I have to agree with semoochie about the #10 ranking, especially with a 55+ (which is truly 65+ when you do a custom ARB breakout) format like MOYL. KFRC-AM was #2 12+ behind KGO with its nostalgia format including a number of legendary jocks like Carter B. --- and couldn't make money because the 25-54 demos stunk. It as all 55+ and more than 50% 65+.

It was something you could count on for just being there when you needed it.

no big bru ha ha. IT was what it was.

SUNNY 910

1520 later but what ever, 910 was what everyone new.

TOTAL shame when Entercom swichted freq's around for whatever reason and then just ditched it.

really.
does EVERYTHING need to pull in 'numbers' ???

why not just provide comfort.

this coming from a 34 year old, not the demo of the Sunny era but many people of my generation appreciated this being there.

comfort.

nice stuff to have in the background.
in the bathroom.
off an old radio, during a party.

such an occasion at one time.

I'm just saying...

Anacortes still runs MOYL

we ran it at WOHI with local mornings... the thing I saw with MOYL, is that if it is a throw away format within a cluster, then SALES makes no effort to sell it. I think it is a viable live format as well, but many markets carry it to save on airstaff costs. when you are sitting at 1450 on the dial, not too many guys willing to program adult standards live.....

Did KIXI carry MOYL, or Americas Best Music? I tuned in simply to hear Chick Watkins whom I listened to in my youth at WGAR.......

What blows is now within listening distance of Cleveland I am still listening to John Lannigan and Chuck Collier on WMJI both who were with C.W. at WGAR in the mid 70s

Kinda funny that The people who inspired me to pursue a broadcast career, are still around, and I am still on the other side of the radio listening to their talents. My hat is off to them.

KIXI wasn't MOYL until recently. They used to be programmed locally, if not always live.

KIXI carried MOYL back in the early 80's for awhile. (back when they were still at 910) I think it might have been when MOYL launched.

KIXI also does old time radio Sat and Sun at 10 PM. Just enjoyed throwing that rather minor fact in...

It is always about the money. The "bottom line" lives on, period.

Funny you should mention John Lannigan Roger. I just heard him this afternoon on " The 70s " a syndie' broadcast here in the Tri-Cities on 97.5 KOOL FM. He sounds great ! Tight presentation , concise and lots of personality. I had heard of this guy, but never actually listened to him closely, until today. Seems like I heard a quick air check of him someplace once. He must have been pretty much an east coast/midwest DJ..? Was he ever out here on the west coast?
