Rachel Bachman The Oregonian 12/21/2003 "Finally, someone was paying attention to Richard Seigler. A recruiter from Florida State was on the phone, chatting up the standout linebacker from Las Vegas. They found me, Seigler thought, giddy with the prospect of such interest. Still, he was puzzled. "I thought you guys didn't recruit out of Florida," Seigler said. "FSU?" the man said. "No, this is OSU. In Oregon." Still, Seigler was excited. He would play in the Pacific-10 Conference. He would take his show to the big time. He would be a Duck. Bursting with pride, Seigler sauntered through his high school halls saying "Quack, quaaack." He did this for a week, until a friend heard him. "You idiot, it's the Beavers," the friend said. "The Ducks are your rivals." ====== Thus the illustrious connection to Oregon was made, and we brought this gentleman to the Beavers squad. Thanks to the educational standards for athletes, he became a changed man at OSU. Yes, he did. He fit into an athletic department once lauded for academia, but now notorious for students that are no stranger to police blotters. This kid learned the power of privilege, and physical intimidation. He learned little beyond screwing and football, and nothing about how to live his life in a positive way. ====== "Metro Vice Sgt. Gil Shannon told the I-Team Thursday afternoon, "It started in December of 2006. We were conducting a juvenile pandering investigation. Various sources led us to identify the suspect as Richard Seigler. He was trying to get women to work for him. Our initial subject had mentioned prostitution. Through related investigations we found more women here in Las Vegas working as prostitutes." http://www.lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=6498774 ====== Sadly, the folks in Corvallis have to endure yet another disgusting story from a member of the football team. The fact that this fellow was not a current student is small comfort. This school may someday learn that scholars first, and athletes second, is the only way to run a program. Until then, we will think of the overwhelming majority of real students who are there to learn first, and compete second, shake our heads, and hum a few bars of Abdel Halim Isma'el Shabana. Poor Bevos. ====== http://ncaa-fb-scandal.aolsportsblog.com/2007/05/10/steelers-cut-linebacker-afte r-hes-charged-with-being-a-pimp/ http://blog.oregonlive.com/tailgate/2007/05/at_least_maybe_the_sheep_thing.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Pimpin'

Corvallis is a waste dump of a city. The whole area needs an enema.

Littlesongs - **ALL** large D-1 schools have character issues that they recruit to some level, unless you're a school like Stanford or Duke ... and those programs are in the growler. If memory serves me correct, Siegler was an Erickson recruit, and he made a history of taking a chance on kids with checkered pasts, namely at Miami. Being the world's biggest Husky hater, I revel in the problems the school has had the last several years with current or former Huskies, from wife beaters (Warren Moon, Corey Dillon) to drunks (Jerramy Stevens) to kids taking illegal gifts that got the school placed on probation right after the national championship (Paging Billy Joe Hobert and his Firebird!) ... but the reality is, ALL schools take kids with issues. Most of the time they let the kids know that if they screw up, they're gone, and most of the time the kid keeps his nose clean ... but sometimes it doesn't happen. And the facade that the top-flite talent is going to a program for an education first and football second is just that - a facade. This has been the case for a good many years, and it won't change in our lifetimes. SOME kids take it seriously and get their degree and do something with it, a lot of them have NFL aspirations, something that roughly two percent of NCAA D-1 football players realize. Oregon State was a football doormat for 35 years. The worst of the worst. They had a little success and demanded more, as any good fan of a program should. The expectations in Corvallis now are to the point where they won't take a pass on a kid with a ton of talent but a questionable ethic. If they want to compete, it ain't happening.
