Seems the owner didn't want him in the restaurant.

Seeing OJ, especially in a steak house, would make me lose my appetite real fast.

He probably blew it by saying he was meeting his wife and a friend.

Or by ordering a Bloody Mary with a glove in it.

OJ singlehandly killed the Ford Bronco without any knives whatsoever. Why didn't he elude the police in a '91 Chevy Impala or some other ugly vehicle!

Actually, he wasnt found innocent, he was not convicted, in the criminal trial, but he was found guilty in the civil trial.

And you can discriminate all you want, as long as it isnt because the person in in a protected class. Suspected murder isnt in a protected class, at least for the moment.

What the hell is a protected class?

It's legal to refuse to serve, given you provide notice of your rights. "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." --that kind of thing applies to all people.

But I'm confused about this whole protected class of people. Maybe kids are one of these, but they are kids! Clearly differentiated from adults.

Disabled or handicapped people are another I suppose.

Among healthy adults, you've just got adults!

So, what are the protected classes as you see them?

Its illegal to serve someone based on their race, age, country of origin , being a vietnam vet, and now in oregon because their gay.

You can post that sign , but if you refuse to serve someone because of their race, you violate federal law, and can be sued.

Actually, you can just refuse to serve them.

Now, if you make a point of it that's illegal. So, saying it, repeatedly doing it to people with specific attributes, etc...

But, just refusing is ok.

And those protected classes again?

List them for me please.

How many Black patrons would feel like Mr. Simpson was racially "singled out" if they were eating at the steakhouse and saw O.J. refused? My informed guess is none, zip, zero and nada.

It is one thing for a large oil company like Texaco --
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/business/november96/texaco_11-12.html
-- or a chain of restaurants like Denny's -- http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/housing/documents/dennysettle2.htm
-- to have racist policies and practices, but this is a clear cut case of small business logic.

Regardless of race, an infamous killer is not someone a sane person would want in a restaurant that serves piping hot meat and potatoes with a big knife. Period.

OJ's reserved table was given to a famous black basketball player who's name I have forgotten. It would be hard to prove racial bias.

I heard it somewhere on the radio the other day but someone said that its a double standard for killers. John Gotti beats murder charges all the time and he is loved while OJ beat one and every one hates him.

Is it because the alleged victim was a pretty white blonde killed by an black man?

I think so.

Justin you bring up my morbid past with your last post.

During college to kill time in the dorm rooms on a Saturday dateless night, we would come up with song titles sung by different people.

Example: "I Love a Parade" by John F. Kennedy.
"Come On Baby Light My Fire", by Joan of Arc. etc...

Yowzer!! Great times!!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - O.J. Simpson won't take legal action against a Louisville restaurateur who booted from a steakhouse on the eve of the Kentucky Derby after all, Simpson's attorney said Saturday.

Simpson and about a dozen guests were asked to leave Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse on May 4 by owner Jeff Ruby, who has said he asked Simpson to leave because "he continues to torment the family whose lives he's already ruined 15 years ago."

Simpson, a Heisman Trophy winner and NFL star, was acquitted in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman, but was found liable in a civil trial that followed.

Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, said Ruby is using the episode for publicity.

"If we had our druthers, this would have died that night and been over," Galanter said from his Florida office. "We are not pushing it."

Last week, Galanter had said his client's ejection was about race, and that he intended to pursue the matter and might go after the restaurant's liquor license.

"He screwed with the wrong guy, he really did," Galanter said of Ruby a few days ago.

============================================
Getting screwed is preferable to getting stabbed to death.

I'm grossed out that OJ has a posse of 12 people, probably bimbos and hangers-on, that would want to be seen in public with him...that's just sort of pathetic.

Happy Mother's Day to his kids!

One of my technicians was on vacation in the bahamas with his wife last year, and he says OJ was on the plane with him, and a lot of people went up to OJ wanting his autograph, and picture taken with him.

I was working on St Croix when the verdict came in, and the entire office, except me, applauded his not guilty verdict.

Mrs. M - People like OJ are the reason why we have those handy little signs in our restaurants in plain view that say, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

Actually, funny story ... my mother used to head up the kitchen and bathroom department of a prominent Spokane-area hardware/home improvement chain. Richard Butler, head of the Aryan Nations, came in to inquire about getting a new kitchen or something like that. Once my mother saw who it was she pointed to the sign above the door and said, "You can leave now, Mr. Butler. I don't help your type." Her coworkers, even the homophobic ones (she got fired from that job when it was found out she was gay), applauded her.
