What yall tink bout diss: The manic owner-boss that will call/email/text you on your after work hours at any given time and want to discuss buisness that is not urgent with no thought or consideration that you might have a life outside of radio. Is it ok to want to recharge your batteries after a 12 hour day of work for the manic owner/boss? What yall tink bout dat?

No, it's not ok. In these days of stations doing more with less, it is important for an owner/manager to know that they can rely on an employee at any time. In return for your 8 dollar an hour pay, you give up your right to a life. This industry needs passionate committed people. If you want a less work intrusive lifestyle, then you might want to consider a different line of employment. There is no room in this competitive industry for people who are not willing to spend 24/7 devoting their lives to their employer. Global economics. work harder, work smarter, or risk losing your job to someone overseas. If you don't someone else will. Hope this clarifies the new world order. Now, get in there and cut some specs and be grateful you have a job. ;-)

The idea of putting people on call on their own time is not limited to the broadcast industry. I have also found this to be part of the corporate culture in manufacturing engineering jobs at plants that operate 24 hours a day.
