I went to a quick stop in Vancouver to fillup...usually do that when the little yellow "Low Fool" (the DJFressh version) light comes on...pumped about 14 gallons when I needed 20 and the pump quit. They have a $50 limit on gas purchases. Hell anymore that don't cut it. It was fine 5 years ago but get with the times people!!!!!

What relics have you ran across still around that really should just go away? And before you say it let's just say politicians of any sort don't qualify on this thread!!!

Hah imagine driving an RV that gets five miles per gallon cross country with that stupid $50 limit DT - we did that three summers ago, and I'd have to go re-pay four times per stop! It got REAL old after a while.

One relic that IS going away is the pay phone - does ANYONE use them anymore?

Most of the stations I go to have the limit at $75. If I am driving my work F-250 (10 mpg)it still takes 2 shots at filling it! The work Durango will sometimes take 2 shots (13 mpg).

Thanks goodness I still don't have the transmission back in the Land Cruiser! (8 mpg!)

Yesterday, I paid $36 to fill up the tank on my 1992 Hyundai Excel. That is the most that I have ever paid to fill up that tank! What was even worse was that every other gas station on TV Highway was charging either the same price as this place ($3.319 per gallon) or more. I then drove home and parked the car in the driveway. It will not be driven again until this Saturday. :-( I wish that these Goddamned high gas prices would go away! Grrrrrrr!

Getting back to the topic of the thread and possibly poking at a hornet's nest in the process, I will submit that perhaps the gas station attendants are a "relic of the past that should just go away."

Okay now, let's not start that "we pay more for gas because we can't pump our own" discussion. It ain't true.

Anyway, another relic, which I actually still have and use; a pager!

I own many relics, but I can't name them on this thread because I'm fond of them and don't want them to go away.

I am a relic. I enjoy relics. I am always comforted when good relics survive. This relic resistance, for instance -- http://www.rmgi-usa.com/rmg_studio.html -- makes me very happy.

When I saw the 2" mastering tape at rmgi, the first thought that came to mind was, could this tape also be used on a Quadruplex video tape recorder? Likewise, could the 1" tape be used on a Type C video recorder?

I use pay phones. Because of an experience with a previous employer, I refuse to get a mobile phone. However, I would be interested to see how profitable it is to operate these things. It seems that pay phones are a target for vandals.

I think this might be the stuff for the Type C video recorder: http://www.tapetape.com/product.cfm?cust_id=F01&catID=1&subcatID=10

Darktemper, that is the coolest "custom rod" in broadcasting. I like the war surplus canopy too -- nice touch!

These beasties are very familiar to me:

I know....strap on some machine guns and that baby could take on KRUD in radio wars!!!! LOL

I love the cartoon were KRUD blows up the KSUX tower then calls and asks them if they knew they were off of the air!
http://www.krud.com/toon54.html

LOL...Just thought of something funny...

It would be hillarious to see Fatboy drive that badboy around and parking it out front of a Clear Cahnnel or Entercom station and doing a live remote from there!!!!! That is if he could get inside of it!!!!!

I wonder if CBS still has that thing in a museum somewhere??
