I'm guessing these are 12+ numbers...

Some interesting things of note...
1. Nice job for KINK... They badly needed this rebound.
2. KHITS is coming on strong. KYCH matched them in this book, but as word spreads, you start to wonder if the Oldies move was a big mistake.
3. Talk is cyclical, but what is up with KPOJ... Seems as if they get one nice book, and then a tremendous drop... Must be hard to sell advertising.
4. I was hoping to see at least some ratings from the new Spanish FM, but I guess it hasn't materialized yet from Salem.

It's no surprise that 105.1 KRSK isn't looking good, after losing Dr. Doug & Skippy. The new "Afternoon Buzz" isn't going to cut it.

Jammin' 95.5 is also suffering from the lack of entertaining talent. The afternoon team admitted (on air) that they didn't know where Hood River was. Not too smart! :-)

It seemed like 105.1's afternoon show peaked and was wayning a little anywhay.

I'd be interested to see the disparity between Charlie's AM and the Buzz PM drive numbers. Both shows are in "building" modes.

I used to be an avid 105.1 listener (even before Dr Drog and Skipie)..The Nelson and Terry show is decent but I cant tune that station in after that except for weekends. The "talent" on that station is horrible. (I hope they dont visit here). I travel for work and in the big cities they have great sounding talent that keeps the tunes rolling and sound like pros. Great phoners, talking over records, having fun.
Here it seems its a bunch of blah blah blah. I cant even understand or have the time to understand at 4p what the hell it is they are talking about. Those Entertainment guides are just plain painful to listen too...and it seems I hear that crap all day. I say keep the morning show and fire everyone else and get some real DJ's in there and lets rock or Im loading more tunes into the ipod!

The music on the buzz is absolutely HORRIBLE! Almost as bad as Movin. No wonder there ratings are dropping. How many times do they need too play BLUE OCTOBER in one day?????? A crappy band getting played 5 million times a day!

How about the consistent and humorous Mike & Amy on the Wolf? Mike Moore keeps his hand on the wheel and Entercom execs are heard to say, "Its steady she goes at 99-5 and you guys keep your jobs".

Did anyone else notice how KXPD "1040 La X" took off like a rocket, pulling almost half the listenership away from "La Grande?" Also, where are KTRO (FM), KKSN, KPDQ (AM or FM), and KCMD?

Churchill's 1040 "La X" has a very sold product, capable of outperforming "La Gran D" 1520. However, 93.1 "El Rey" will be taking over the Regional Mexican audience, with it's FM Stereo advantage.

These ratings reflect the WINTER book. KTRO did not flip to Spanish until the spring book. It will be at least a month before we even see the first trend, and August before we see an actual ratings book for them as Spanish.

Anyone want 12+ numbers for the stations that follow, check the R&R website: KCMD, KPDQ-FM, KTRO-FM, KWIP, KMUZ, KYKN, KRKT-FM.

Can't believe KKSN just dropped off the map.

If you look at 18-34, Jammin took it in the pants. The midday shift dropped 5 shares (8.5-3.5, I couldn't remember the exact numbers but I am close). The whole station and every daypart, AM, mid, PM took a hit.

Just heard from a friend that there was a rather massive "diary return failure" in Portland metro, and therefore Arbitron flooded the market with diaries for the final two weeks of the book.

Perfect (horrible) example of one of the problems with monthlies. When the Arbitrends are released (8 times a year - between the 4 books) each month is treated as an equal 1/3 of the reported number. When the "book" comes out, the entire 3 month period is treated equally. So a great (or lousy) month worth 1/3 in the trends could be worth 15% in the book.

you don't hear much on here about Rick Emerson's show or his station..Therre was a huge hype on here about his show on 970..how did they do?

Rick's show rolls on like a freight train (if you listen to it). The fan base is, as previously stated, ravenously loyal. One year plus 1 month into the show, there seems to be a slow creep up in momentum. A recent listener party (the second since starting up on 970) was very well attended.

I doubt 970 will ever be KEX. Given the history of hot talk, the format seems limited in Portland on AM, and CBS will never spend a dime on promoting them, so it remains a grassroots effort. Most people I know don't even realize AM exists, except for sports.

FM talk in Portland may be an interesting experience...and I'm not talking about the conservative talk that was on for a minute.

Most CHR/Pop and CHR/Rhythmic stations don't do as well in the Winter trends compared to Spring and Summer books. It also depends on the trend in music as well.

As for the Buzz, I don't think they need to change the format, but please drop the rap in the Hot AC format. If you look at Seattle's KPLZ, they received a 2.1 rating in the last book. That's not good either, but the Buzz and Entercom should not act like it is the end of the world!

KPOJ lost Franken. He sure had a following. Also outside of Hartman all of the KPOJ programming is delayed by at least three hours. When Ed Schultz was live his numbers were better.

As for the Buzz they had the Freeloader program to get people to listen for points and codes. After the new PD came in he scrapped the program.

Based on current ratings he needs to be scrapped. In addition the Buzz spent alot of money on TV advertising. Seems to have been a waste of money.

Im actually surprised that Jammin had such a bad book. Its not like Z100 sounds any better, because they don't. Is hip/hop music losing its appeal with the kids these days??? Maybe nothing good is coming out right now??? Even More sad is Movin's numbers......OUCH! Who wants to bet that station will be gone by first of the year! ITs OBVIOUS CBS is not spending a dime on that station.

I think Jammin' is off target musically and with some of their talent, there are several versions of rhythm-crossover and Jammin' is on the wrong version... and they're restin' on their laurels! As they say in broadcasting, "sleepin'!" Jammin should have been all over Cinco De Mayo!

And Z-1-Blunder is just a bad station, which could be a good station SO easily.

Both of them, how can they afford to squander those signals?

Let's go back to what TDanner said about the diary return failure.

That means you really can't make any judgments about the quality of programming based on Arbitron results.

Let's face it ... even on their best day, Arbitron numbers are a mish-mosh of a lot of factors, and aren't a guide to who's sounding good or not.

You could NEVER make a judgment about the quality of programming based on Arbitron results. That's what my old stats professor used to call a "flying inferential leap!" You can make a judgment about the size of a station's audience from Arbitron. It is not a qualitative service.

Any survey (like ARB) gives you an estimated number, and an error range at the 95% level. That means 95 times out of 100, repeating the survey the same way at the same time would yield results within that range. It also means that 5 times out of 100, reality could be way above or below the estimated number.

There are people in and out of radio who think or expect Arbitron to be something they aren't. Its the expectations that are wrong, not Arbitron.

Nobody is commenting on the steady pace of "The Wolf". Mike and Amy set the table and the listener sticks around, not for only breakfast, but for lunch and dinner. They have taken a good lead on KUPL and have maintained it for several books in a row. That is the impact of the programming of Mike Moore. Kudos to Mr. Moore!
