I've little to say:

Nicely done.

Additional commentary to be found on Crooks and Liars. (Bill blames Soros!)

Thanks KSKD and the Hoosiers! A little bite from the article:

"The IU researchers found that O'Reilly called a person or a group a derogatory name once every 6.8 seconds, on average, or nearly nine times every minute during the editorials that open his program each night."

After a bit of research, I have found that Bill expresses his hate every bit as fast as a Lexus and a Porsche. Ironically, all three of them have automatic transmission.

"Lexus says a 0-to-60-mph run takes 6.8 seconds"
http://www.lexus.com/models/ES/reviews.html

"With a five-speed manual, the Boxster gets to 60 m.p.h. in a reasonably brisk 5.9 seconds; the automatic takes 6.8 seconds."
http://tigerhawk.blogspot.com/2005/08/it-stops-like-slammed-door.html

Research has also shown that if Bill actually were a luxury sportscar, he could think about what he says, and stop, in the exact amount of time.

"So for example, if we are traveling at 60 mph and we look at the point where we will be in about 3.8 seconds, we will be looking at the point where we would stop if we have to then decide to brake. Actual braking takes 6.8 seconds."
http://www.safespeed.org.uk/braking.html

I hate to bring up anything that might be tapping into Bill's deviant imagination, but if he lacks restraint, we can bring in an expert. Kayla Nelson, a champion goat roper, could make him quiet in the same amount of time.

"Nelson grabbed the goat’s three legs, and with a surgeon’s precision, she completed three clean wraps, stopping the clock in 6.8 seconds -- tying her best time of the week."

I love how Bill gets baited by these kind of analyses. A real journalist would brush them off and ignore them, but he has to go on the counterattack. The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks.

And why is that?

Because he is not a journalist any more! Lars is suffering the same fate, for a local example. He's not as bad (yet), but he's getting there nicely. Anyone doing this is probably banking huge though, so how bad can it hurt really?

If Bill was actually practicing what he preaches, he would not be the target of said studies. It's all about him really, nobody else. This kind of thing is only as worrysome as Bill thinks it is.

He paints certain people and positions as villans and others as heros, and hes consistent, he doesnt flip flop.

I guess liberals would want journalists to also show Hitler in a good light , just ot be fair.

O'Reilly has repeatedly made statements and then denied having ever made them. That's not flip-flopping - that's LYING. He does lie consistently - I'll give him that, if you are looking for the virtue of consistency angle. I think Hitler was pretty consistently evil, too.

The O'Reilly show is an opinion show that markets itself as "news analysis," but the problem is that a lot of people take it to be an unbiased news presentation. It has also been documented that a number of people get their news from satire shows on Comedy Central that were never intended to be real news shows. If the state of news reporting in this country ever does improve, I think that it will get a lot worse than it is today before it starts to get better.

This analysis is a hatchet job. It doesn't offer much evidence to back up its findings.

Those who believe O'Reilly is a propagandist should also be offended by Keith Olbermann and Thom Hartmann.

"Those who believe O'Reilly is a propagandist should also be offended by Keith Olbermann and Thom Hartmann."

Conversely, those who consider O'Reilly a journalist should not be offended by Olbermann or Hartmann.

Victoria Taft makes Bill and Lars seem like logical thinkers. She is more ignorant of the truth than either of them.

Now wait a minute.

Victoria Taft makes people like Thom Hartmann appear uninformed. She's always prepared, has great guests and is entertaining. And like Mr. Larson, she must have a lot more courage than local liberal talk show hosts.

It doesn't take much bravery to spout the leftist party line in Portland, Oregon. It takes a lot more guts to be a conservative in this socialist, tax crazy, car-hating haven. Diversity around here only appears to apply to liberal viewpoints.

"Courage"? "Bravery'? "Guts?"

Oh please, I'm going to go vomit now.

Do you really have such an inflated opinion of yourself, Taft, and your ever-shrinking GOP-lovin' ilk to be throwing those words about?

Good God, it's only local talk radio, not the front lines in Viet Nam.

You probably wear a bulletproof vest when you, if ever, come into the big scary city.

Car hating.

It's true. Try finding a place to park.
Portland's leaders don't like cars.
They like light rail.

Herb, do you have any idea how many two-bit carpetbagging migratory morons have arrived in our fair city? They took your parking space, not the "Portlanders." The true citizens are filling the bike rack. Tom McCall had it right. Many of us long for the days before we became Whoregon, when we could breathe, find a job, and for Herb, most of all, get a blessed parking space.

You may not like Keith, but he is one of a few on either side with an ounce of integrity. I think that the right can count Lou Dobbs as an example. As factual reporting and commentary goes, beyond the two of them, it is really quite a wasteland. A few good reporters scattered here and there, but mostly our airwaves are filled with empty headed card readers and pill popping haters.

The Portland "leaders" were fairly elected by the people of Portland. The majority of people wanted Portland as it exist today. Vera was elected 3 times. Surely nobody here is suggesting the leaders defy the will of the people and please outsiders who didn't elect them, hmm?

Vera was in bed with the developers, and thanks to almost universal business support, ran virtually unopposed in her bids for Mayor. She is not from our city, or even our state, and her outsider status was reflected in her many poor decisions.

Tres Shannon and Extremo the Clown are interesting characters, but hardly competition, and the few legitimate folks who tried to mount a campaign found it to be a futile exercise. I did not vote for her, and I consider myself a Portlander.
