A number of us have posted that we thought Imus got a bad deal. Now, this talk show host said on the air he was glad his competitor's mother was dead in a house fire.

Would you fire him for that. I would.

If such comments hurt the profitability of the station, then the owner is stupid not to fire him. But if the owner doesn't care, or the audience keeps coming back and buying the products advertised, then why not keep him on?

It pains me to admit, but he has every right to say what he said. After that it's all economics.

That really sucks.

I don't like it and if I were the owner, I may well consider something --even firing for it. However, I would have also set some expectations up front before the hire too, so who knows what this guy is operating under. Without that, I'm at a loss for judgement.

I fear the slippery slope inherent in this crap too.

If something said has teeth, it's gonna annoy somebody right? Where advocacy is concerned, it's sometimes well within ethical bounds to really punch a point home --sometimes in a morbid way.

Rather than just fire the guy, if enough people are annoyed, just get at the sponsors. It won't take long for either corrective behavior or a firing right?

Ask the hosts of KSFO about this. They've been put through the ringer from a listener who did go right to the sponsors with their actual audio.

I take my earlier comment back. I don't think firing is the way to go, let the audience and sponsors handle it.

Edselehr is right. Michael Savage, the cracker's hero says things like this all the time. Howard Stern wished cancer on the FCC boss. They make money so they stay on the air.

As a sponsor, only a misguided smoke detector company would put up with this line of reasoning. I would definitely consider termination.

Are you seriously gonna step up and back "Pills" Limbaugh?

Better don your favorite flame suit. Could get ugly...

Rush's abuse of prescription narcotics has little to do with his politics. Conservatives and liberals get addicted. Plain facts.

As for the Milwaukee host, what he said was very bad. But censoring him creates bigger problems. Let his management and his audience decide.

Red sez: "Rush's abuse of prescription narcotics has little to do with his politics."

No? Let me quote Rush before he got caught:

'we need to send those drug-using long-haired pinkos up the river.'

It's one think to have an addiction problem, but its another thing to be a hypocrite.

There's a slight difference between buying drugs on a street corner and getting hooked on prescription drugs given to you by a doctor due to a serious ailment you have.

"There's a slight difference..."

...but not much of one, yes?

The difference is ... what you do next.

If you're a famous talk show host, hooked on an Rx that your MD gave you, do you go into rehab ... or do you act out to get your fix?

But when your taking 100+ a day that's more like a DRUG PROBLEM than just a serious ailment. LimBLAH'S ailment is that lump between his ears.

Considering Mr Limbaugh was never convicted of anything, its stretching to call him a "druggie".

And the only thing he was accused of, was taking too many prescription drugs for pain.

Not every drug addict has a conviction.

That makes me laugh. You can be addicted to drugs without a criminal record. All it takes is a chemical reaction in the brain with something that causes addiction. Any of you drink coffee or soda religiously?

Addicts.

I am glad that Rush is getting relief from pain. He works so hard up on those girders, tossing hot rivets, and sweating through his day. Or wait, doesn't he still wear a tie, sit on his ass and wheeze hate for a living? Why are we pretending for a moment that he isn't using his celebrity status to manipulate his physician?

Pain from what? Truth? It is obvious to most folks that "heavy equipment" includes consoles, transmitters, towers and our public airwaves. If your doctor says that you cannot use a real bulldozer on those kinds of meds, you should not use a mass media bulldozer either.

But I thought we were talking about Rush, who got his drugs from his housekeeper?

BTW- only tweakers and junkies get their drugs on the streetcorner(if they can't find it anywhere else). Most "normal folks" get their recreational drugs from friends or friends of friends... you know, grassroots networking.
