I've always had a soft spot for good southern gospel, ala' JD Sumner & The Stamps Quartet, the Blackwood Brothers, Bill Gaither, Masters Five, et al.

But I get the distinct impression that DJFressh doesn't mean THAT kind of gospel (or "gosple") at all...

While "The Fish" promotes "the Gospel of Jesus," the term "Gospel Music" these days usually refers to either Southern Gospel, or Black Gospel. I assume djfrresh is referring to the latter. "The Fish" plays neither style.

To answer the original question, even a market the size of the Bay Area can only support a low-powered, under-funded Gospel AM (KDYA), so Portland isn't a likely spot for one to succeed. Your best bet is the internet. For any genre of Christian music, try http://www.christiantuner.com, then click on the Gospel link.

Seriously, the only place that I have ever heard of FM stations running full time Black Gospel formats is in small markets in deep Southern states. The only place that I have heard full time Southern Gospel radio stations was also in the deep South, and those stations were all on AM. We used to have a nightly Black Gospel music show on KKSL until that station went dark.

Radio One recently launched their Black Gospel format in Washington, DC.

Southern Gospel can be heard on 93.7 KGSG in the Tri-Cities, WA.

OK...104.1 ins't Southern Gospel but more of a Portland Christian Music Station then! I like the music they play. And according to the TV commercial I saw earlier they are giving away a billion bucks!

I heard 2 songs in a row after accidentally landing on the Fish. I thought it was K103. Both were familiar pop songs!

104.1 The Fish is mixing in artists like Lifehouse, The Fray, and Mat Kearney.

hello from a medium market in the South - just an FYI - here in market #45, we have a full-time black gospel station that does very well, and an Urban A/C that has several hours of gospel programming on Sundays...and it's awesome, uplifting stuff, even for a nonbeliever like me!

Should we all pitch in and buy this poor soul a sense of humor?

An excellent live black gospel choir can sing some of the most incredible music this side of eternity...hopefully making Radiodawgz a believer!

Radiodawgz, are you talking about WQMG?

It's fairly common practice for Urban AC to run some gospel programming on Sundays.

Dberichon -Yep, QMG is it - and WEAL-AM full-time.

And hey Broadway...I'm kinda like Annie Savoy in Bull Durham -- "I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only one that feeds the soul, day in and day out, is the church of baseball" (only for me, it's radio)
