My first concert was: Huey Lewis and The News, during their Sport tour. Quickly followed by Van Halen 5150. I know I saw other shows as a kid at the fair or Disneyland, but the H.L.N show was what I would consider my first 'real' concert. what are yours? I'm sure this is a thread that has been hashed out before, but I'm curious to see what you all have to say.

Oh man, I just remembered that I saw Tom Jones when I was 10 (he happens to share my b-day... june 7th, I am expecting presents!) that show doesn't really count, since I didn't actually choose to go (which, I guess means, that I chose to see Huey Lewis... oh crap...)

Huey Lewis Kicks ass, I saw him back in 91, at the Memorial Coliseum. I also saw Van Halen back in 95,
two months after the concert Hagar gets kicked out of the band, Replaced by the ass clown Gery Cherone.

Supertramp "Breakfast in America" tour. WSU (Pullman) 1979. Or was it late '78? I honest to God can't remember. Yes, I'm a geek, didn't go to a concert until college. Others out there like me?

I can't be sure but Sammy Hagar with Night Ranger was maybe my first. Was the Three Lock Box tour I believe. Sammy brought down the house! Sammy was climbing into the catwalks all over the place during "Theres Only One Way to Rock"!!!

Then there was the 1984 Van Halen tour I believe were I had seats slightly elevated and to the side of the stage....right were the players tunnel is in the colesium....Eddie climbed the speakers and sat down up there no more than ten feet from us and played eruption. Could not hear for a week after that one!!!!!

The Beatles! at Portland Memorial Colesium

ahem NOT!

Actually it was Three Dog Night at the MC followed very shortly by Grand Funk Railroad and Alice Cooper, also at the MC. All three were on the top of the charts at the time. TDN put on the best show. PDX was a TDN town. I was in the first row of the GFR show and, well, they were loud. That's all I remember.

Wow...Chris Taylor...Chicago in '72. Wish I was there, although I would have been a young boy at the time! (My favorite 70's group of all-time!)

Favorite Chicago tunes: "I've Been Searching So Long", "Just you and me", "Make Me Smile". Doesn't get much better...

Paul-

Saw Chicago again in 83 just before Cetera left. Last year our little radio station in Coos Bay had a contest where we gave away 4 tickets to see Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire at the Rose Garden. Neither disappointed because key members of each band are still with the group.

Chicago's Robert Lamm is one of my keyboard heroes.

Yes w/ Rick Wakeman on keyboards. If I remember correctly it was when Roundabout was out. I think it was the Close To the Edge Tour. 1973. I was a junior in High School.

Poco was the opening group (again if my memory is correct)....

Wow! Sometimes I even surprise myself!

You fellows caught some amazing shows from the first time through the turnstile!

First rock concert was not a rock concert. My Dad was the greatest in the world and got us "Knothole Club" season tickets to see the Beavers. One night, the pregame included an exhibition softball game that I could not miss: Journey versus KGON! I was screaming like a madman, and loving every moment because my hometeam won by a mile. KGON truly handed them their cups. Then they made their "Escape."

(add)

"I can't be sure but Sammy Hagar with Night Ranger was maybe my first. Was the Three Lock Box tour I believe." Darktemper, my best friend in gradeschool was at that show and brought me a sticker. Silly as it seems, I think I still have it somewhere.

My first concert was the Monkees reunion tour in '86 at Civic Stadium. I remember missing Mike Nesmith, but enjoying it because they really were having a blast being big again. Herman's Hermits were fun and the Grassroots were surprising. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap were terrible, that still stands out. The sound was about as good as a really big boombox sitting inside thirty feet of drainage pipe at the bottom of a dry swimming pool, but my brother and I did have fun.

AC/DC, Who Made Who tour in 1985, in the old Spokane Coliseum.

I was 13 years old, and all I heard from my mother was how "I was going straight to hell!!" for going to that concert.

I've seen them four times in all and they fail to disappoint. :-)

I may be reaching further back than anyone so far here.

Deep Purple, The Turtles, and The Grass Roots at Memorial Coliseum, probably 1966. This was the Deep Purple of "Hush" fame, not the "Smoke On The Water" bunch. Lots of organ! I was 12, wide eyed, and amazed. I don't remember who I even went with, it wasn't my parents I know that for sure.

Maybe my brain cells are fogged, but I think the opening act for the hermits was the Who.

I also remember seeing in late 65 through 66 Dave Clark and the Outsiders. In 72 I remember seeing the Carpenters in Denver.

I saw Bob Hope outside Danang in 70, he had the Gold Diggers, Gloria Loring and johnny Bench.

I was dragged by my parents as a child to see this really boring country music concert at the Oregon State Fair (ya know the pre LB Day Amptheatre days) My little brother and I both put up a major fit that we couldn't do more fun stuff at the Oregon State Fair then watch Johnny Cash.

Although my first real and willing concert experience is kinda like PaulWalker's as I was a freshman in colllege in Providence RI seeing Alanah Miles open for Peter Frampton on the Frampton Comes Alive II tour at the Strand Theatre.

October 9, 1976 - Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.

And since we're talking about Van Halen, I saw them in March of 1978 at the Tower Theater in Philly. They were the opener, the 'middle' band was Ronnie Montrose and the headliner was Journey on the Evolution tour.

This was not my first concert, but I saw the fake Fleetwood Mac in Portland back in about '73 or '74. Pretty much the whole crowd booed and walked out demanding a refund. Which we got. Anybody else remember that one?

Queen. June 1980. I was 11. Waited all day in front of The Memorial Colossuem during the days of festival seating. Got 14th row.

I don't know if I'd let an 11 year old do that today - or even if it should have been done then. I turned out OK though - ahem.

Def Leppard (with LA Guns!) Hysteria tour at the MC when I was 15, in the nosebleeds.

Come to think of it, that may be my first AND last big-arena show. The next umpteen shows I saw were at the Pine St. Theater/LaLuna.
