I keep thinking Lars is still a local talk show host. This from All Access:

---KJCE To Celebrate Fifth Anniversary In Format with Larson Event---

Westwood One's Lars Larson will be on hand live as Entercom Talk KJCE-A/Austin celebrates its fifth anniversary as "Talk Radio 1370AM" next Friday (5/4). The station is holding a special event with Larson at the Texas Land And Cattle Steak House in Austin 4-8p CT with free food and drink specials, Larson's special show will air 5-8pm that day.

This from the site: "Plus register to win prizes and have the opportunity to meet nationally syndicated talk show host Lars Larson!"

"Lars will be broadcasting live nationwide at Texas Land & Cattle and we will be airing his special show 5p-8p."

When I lived in Austin in the mid 1990s, KJCE was running the "Solid Gold Soul" format. The callsign stood for "K-Juice." I have some AM 1370 refrigerator magnets that replace the zero in 1370 with an orange.

Let me guess, the station ran out of Juice?

It was all squeezed out.

Then crushed and beat to a pulp.

And that's when "Talk Radio 1370" was born?

Well, this should be interesting. A Scando from Astoria down in the heart of Beanerland doing a remote from a cattle company in the middle of the most liberal city in Texas. But it's great Lars still has the national reach to pull this off. Lars, whatever you do, don't leave the Kevlar in the trunk.

Actually, as an Astorian I want to point out that Lars is from Tillamook. KOKE, at 1370, was Austin's only country station back in the '60's. (I think they were a daytimer then) I remember their TOH ID/Intro to news was "KOKE, Austin, where country music IS news..."

KOKE, by the way, is now the call of the Air America affiliate in Austin (1600AM)

In 1995, KJCE was "Solid Gold Soul." I think that by 1996, they flipped to ABC's "The Touch" urban AC format, which mixed in new music and had a more sophisticated-sounding presentation. I was not in Austin at the time that The Juice dried up (sorry, couldn't resist).

Austin's 1600 AM is a relative newcomer; when I lived in Austin in 1995-1997, there was no local station on that frequency. In fact, the airport was operating a 1610 kHz TIS back then.
