On Khits, where they play 3 in a row, and you have to guess how their connected. They gave a clue, preview, and since I knew they were going to one hit wonders today, when they played the first song I knew the answer.

Never even got through before on a radio contest.

What were the songs and what did you win? Are you taking us all out for drinks and a movie?

And are you sure you don't mean KGON? Iris has done "My 3 songs" every day for about a million years, or did KSHT copy them?

KHITS is now conducting a similar contest to KGON's My Three Songs.

Darktemper, if I knew you better, I'd call you a contest whore. ;)

Don't take that the wrong way. Actually, that's a pretty impressive stack o' prizes. I'm curious.... How was:

1) the Star Wars Special Edition DVD
2) Queen w/Paul Rodgers (I've heard mostly good things)
3) Lisa Lampanelli (I've seen her stuff on TV)

Star Wars is Star Wars....always good for a sci-fi fanatic.
Queen is fantasitc....Paul Rogers is good in his own environment...but mixing the two did not work!
Lisa Lampanelli is in June...will let you know.

90% of the wins happened during my lunch break or before/after work. The Rock Hits stuff was when it was Mix 1075 on the Tim & Carrie show which if I remember right was shortly after 7:00am. Then that STINKIN Bob Rovers royally screwed everything up when he bumped that program.
BTW...when your in charge of IT you can setup a bank of phones with one-button dialing and it works pretty good!!!! LOL...Just kidding but I could actually do that though! I do have a "HOT" button for KGON though! One button dialing on a fast T-1 circuit helps!

Oh Yah! (edit)Hell No You bet on the taxes!
Ya never know who reads these things!!

DarkTemper is worked at 107.5 .but thats right, he said he was a listener on another post.....And listeners use the words Cume, TSL and other insider words that radio folk use. riiiiiight. I am sorry you got blown out Tim. Rock Hits got the world rocked in ratings and didnt make a dime on 1075, thats why they switched to Movin, you should know better than anyone, only you are stumping for that wacked format that didnt work or some B side rock station that plays music 99% of folks don't know.
I couldnt let you keep ranting about it anymore without saying something.

Name is John Dude and I am just a listener. Merkin and various others that were at the last get together will confirm that if you want! If I used the word cume it was because I pooched the spelling on come!
After a quick google I see it is a station's cumulative audience. Don't think I ever used that word in a thread in the proper context.

Kurtis, I can verify that Darktemper is a great guy, a very dedicated listener and a lover of broadcasting, however, he is not in the industry. In fact, he has spent so much time around the nerds that he is using vernacular reflexively, but not intentionally. While we are discussing things that can lead to easy misunderstandings, I certainly hope your name isn't a dark reference to the accident at Stonehenge.

The K-Hits office is easy to find. It is in that huge building that says KOIN on it.

BTW
Thanks for the compliment littlesongs! I may have started in this forum ragging on CBS about dumping my station of choice at that time but that is all it was. Have learned much about the radio biz in reading posts on this forum. It's not hard to pick up some of the terms or google something if you don't know it's meaning like TSL. I had no idea that was Top Station List until I googled it this morning or Cume as well.
Have a great one and see you at the next function hopefully. Love the hat by the way!

Sing it loud with me:

There's a party in my pants and I want you all to cume!

Ha, Kurtis! You've been had!

DarkTemper, I'd consider that a compliment, you can now "pass" as an insider. I'll bet you'll get invited to some really cool parties and events and ignore the rest of us little listener nerds.

And BTW, isn't it about time for you to pick the next meeting time and spot, or is it too soon?

You're welcome Darktemper, and your new mission is to find our next wild party. I still can't believe we all got kicked out of the Ace of Hearts and had to settle for a McMenamins. :o)

In all seriousness, I liked the idea of meeting on the old boulevard of broadcasting, West Burnisde. I wonder if Macadam will have the same cache and romance in 50 years?

Apparently Ace of Hearts insists on more than 1 female for every 6 males. I guess Tanya Harding was busy that Sunday, but I swear I saw her truck parked there once (as I was driving by.)

And again, is it so wrong to love Merkin?

Got my prize, but I was disappointed, when you go into the office, you can see the radio room, and it is very small, if they wanted to have a full morning show there would be no room.

And I didnt see the turntable for the one 45 at 1:45.

Also I didnt know KUPL was in the same area.

Have a look:
http://www.pdxradio.com/whoowns.htm
KGON and the Wolf share the same office.
KUFO and MOVIN share the same office.
Don't necessarily need a seperate office for each channel...only makes sense to house them together for ease of communication internally and to keep property costs down.

Sharing the same office isnt bad, but what appeared to be very small areas for the DJ, of course, it is possible that was just the engineering area, and the DJ's have larger rooms.

No that is the size of the room for the DJ's. Why do you think they have a no talk triple play. They need to get out and have a breather.

It just seemed odd, last time I was in a broadcast booth, long time ago, there was room for 2 or 3 dj's, for when you had a real morning or afternoon show. Room for a visitor or two, in case you had a guest, etc.

To me it would make sense to optimize a small room so that everything needed was at hands reach. They probably have a guest room setup for remotes when visitors are onsite.

Wait. Kupl has a No talk triple play...and a good sized studio to go along with that.

NW, you don't get to see the entire space that KHITS is in...that window blocks the back part where there's another 2-3 mics. The racks really make that room look smaller. It's not the BIGGEST studio, but I've worked in and seen smaller.

You all should really see where AM 970 was broadcasting out of last year. It was tremendously small, but Rick was still able to do a good show with guests.
