The semi annoying announcer on KHITS, that does the rambling about fads, etc from the 60's and 70's. Is currently talking about driving on Burnside, and seeing the DJ playing records. Is that abour the old KISN studio?

SEMI ANNOYING????? That guy is HORIBLE! Not hating, just being honest, he needs to go. Why in the heck is Khits not using jingles??? That station would sound so much better if they dumped the geeky voice guy and added jingles.

Classic Hits stations don't usually use jingles. Keep in mind; "K-Hits 106-7" doesn't want to sound like an "Oldies" station. They are smart to stay away from jingles.

I disagree with Radioxpert! NO WAY! Just because you are using jingles does not mean you are an oldies station. Jingles=excitement and fun! Khits NEEDS jingles.

Listen to their One-hit Wonders promos. They use some jingle clips that really catch your ear. Generic, but amazing how even that little dose spikes the energy. It would have to be a '70s-style jingle package. If they don't want to sound like an oldies station, why all the ancient reminiscences by nerdy guy? It starts to feel like we're in Sunny territory: "Remember all those great hits and artists of yesteryear? Perry Como, Patti Page, and Nat King Cole? Well, they're all back again, right here on Sunny 1520". Honestly, I'm older, but not ready to become my father yet.

I don't care whether a station is an oldies station or a top 40 station, jingles sound awesome!!! They do bring excitement and fun to the station and they totally carry the whole forward momentum going. Z100 back in the day before the station SUCKED, had some of the best jingles I have ever heard. I loved the Top of the hour jingle they used to have back in the early 90's, the jock would come on(HIGH ENERGY) Tell what songs were coming up, then BAM, uptempo jingle, it sounded soooooo good! High energy and fun! Thats what K-hits is lacking, the high energy and fun. The nerdy voice guy MAKES THE STATION SOUND OLD!!! He is a big nerd, and who wants to think that their favorite music is nerdy or old??? Nobody does! Heres a question, would you want to hang out with the nerdy voice guy??? No, he is not appealing, he is not sexy, he is nerdy sounding and who wants to hang out with a nerd??? If they want to use a voice guy instead of jingles, at least get a voice guy who sounds more like Barry White, not Steve Urkel.

And compared to other large markets, Portland is pretty homey and hokey and the people are nice, and a little nerdier in general than other places. In PDX, you'll be more relatable if you take it a little hokey rather than being big and slick.

I vote for no jingle, we avoided them in the 70s cause we considered them to be un-hip and old sounding. They sounded hokey. The voiceguy has been named, he's Poindexter. My guess is that he's already on the payroll, why else would he be on? He certainly doesn't sound 70s hip. Nor does his female partner, Harriett. The semi annoying announcer on KHITS is probably like Poindexter, someone who gets along well with the corporate types and is non-threatening. Yawn

Actually, this is left field, but I assumed that "Poindexter" was trying to sound a bit like one of the characters from Negativland -- a longtime found-sound, music and audio collage project from some notorious Bay Area radio geeks. Anyone who has heard their piece, "Playboy Channel" or any of the "Pastor Dick" series probably thinks that is what the K-Kits guy is referencing. Personally, I think it is a bit dorky, but very Portland. Since more than 2/3 of the population weren't here in the 70s, I like the inside references. After all, many of the places he mentions were buried in our past by developers, corporate screw jobs, short sighted politicians and waves of carpetbaggers. Perhaps a "dirty old man" voice like Jim Backus or Gail Gordon will be the rage for local recollections in 30 years. Instead of Poindexter waxing poetic about Rub-a-Dub, Farrell's and View Masters, we will have some sweaty moustached aged hipster remembering all the strip clubs and spinning "classics" from Britney and Stone Temple Pilots. Mercifully, most of us will be dead.

I like the voice guy! Jingles are silly and old-fashioned. Think about it... how many big, national advertisers still use jingles? Yes, local businesses still use them. But watch a prime-time network tv show, and count the number of jingles advertisers use on national ads. The number will likely be zero. So, the big-money research must not look favorably on jingles, or companies like Tide would be using them to sell their product. I hear a jingle, and I think "someone is trying to appeal to my emotion, not my logic". People are more skeptical about those types of things these days. I think Constantine has it right here with his apparent no-jingle policy; talk to the listener like the guy next door, don't sing to them about your station.

Cookie cutter? How are jingles cookie cutter?? They bring excitement and fun to that station. Who wants to be associated with a geeky guy who has a really bad acne problem, is a 45 year old virgin and wears a pocket protector??? Poindexter gets the geek award! I have never heard a voice guy that bad in my life! While i do enjoy most aspects of K-hits, the pimpley faced Poindexter is ruining my enjoyment.

I have to admit most stations on the dial it seems are playing some pretty damn bland stuff. K-hits could use better variety and Charlie even seems to be playing some REALLY BLAND CRAP! How many times do we need to hear Sara Mcgloughlin, Paula Cole and her nasty armpit hair!!! I hate the lesbian lillith fair artists.

The Rock and Roll Cafe seems to be hitting a groove. The rapport of the crew has always been really natural, but aside from the herculean task of getting Mark to hit a post, it is flowing really well now. Obviously the friendships have grown and I really dig the banter with Tim and Moonbabe. This is really fun radio. Poor Jillian. Shame on you Mr. Lindsay for throwing your charming and disarming new "telecommunications specialist" to the wolves. Alright, I'll admit it made great radio, but now you've made her Mom worry on Mother's Day. After declaring to the world she was single, I bet the switchboard looked like a police chase through Peacock Lane. I gotta admit Robert Craig has grown on me. Week after week, he has his homework done, a low key sense of humor, insight on what he plays and consistently great sets. When you look at this time slot, you almost expect Otto, and yet, there he is, spinning music that has fueled owls for decades. The weekend overnight guy never gets his due, right? So, hats off to Robert. Hey, who made it out to the World's Largest Yard Sale? I thought it was a really cool idea. Of course, it was perfectly Portland in execution. It always drizzles on a long-planned and long-promoted community get together. Nature also makes sure that the wet event lands just a day or two before a nice dry spell. I love this town.

Why are so many people migrating to sirius and xm? Because they are putting them in cars .... WOW, Mercurys big selling point is that is comes with Sirius? I say piffle! some people will buy any gadget. People are sampling other options because radio is failing to do what radio does best. That, and the fact that too many new FMs have come on line in recent years...... Too many stations.

There's been so much talk about the regulatory hurdles that Sirius (Nasdaq: SIRI) and XM (Nasdaq: XMSR) face to get their merger approved that we've almost forgotten to wonder whether the deal is in each party's best interest. More to the point, is Sirius overpaying for XM? It could be. This morning's quarterly earnings report shows Sirius once again growing substantially quicker than rival XM. It landed 556,490 net new subscribers for the March quarter, nearly twice as many as the 285,000 that XM netted over the same three months. With 6.6 million subscribers, Sirius is sticking to its guidance, which calls for more than 8 million accounts by the end of the year. That's a milestone XM passed in April. In other words, Sirius is now less than nine months away from XM. If growth rates continue, Sirius will lap XM in less than two years.
