I came across this thread while reading the headline news on Comcast's homepage.

So, what's your favorite driving song?

For me it depends on the mood I'm in, how long the drive is and what the weather is like.

On a sunny warm day maybe something along the lines of the Doors L.A. Woman or Bob Seger's Roll Away.

On a long drive, especially at night, it would have to be the entire album Dark Side of the Moon.

Of course John Prine fits well any time for me!

Skeptical, Excellent! I haven't even thought of that song for years, but it was one of my favorites when I was in high school!

I have it on vinyl, but I have not started my project of recording all my vinyl to my PC.

Route 66/Behind the Wheel - Depeche Mode (but the Nelson Eddy version of Route 66 would do).

Bye, Bye Love/Moving in Stereo - The Cars.

Driver's Seat - Sniff & The Tears.

And for those of us who are still "missing KSKD," this thread wouldn't be complete without a mention of "Sausalito Summer Night" by Diesel. "Another mile or two to 'Frisco, two-hundred gallons from L.A., The engine's thumping like a disco, We outta' dump 'er in the bay..."

I'll also put in another vote for "Autobahn."

"My Kingdom for a Car" Phil Ochs

I love listening to Roger Miller, the Clean, the Pogues, Johnny Cash, early Liz Phair, Big Star, Kinks, John Denver, heck, a lot of stuff on long trips. I try to bring a good tall stack.

Worst trip ever was being stuck listening to endless faux-Zappa crap from Ween for hours and hours tooling around Mount Hood. I was not in charge that day.

Best car song ever? Woody Guthrie!

Lyle Lovett's 'Pontiac', especially the driving song 'LA County', one of my all time favorite songs. That CD always goes on a road trip.

Agree on Johnny Cash and The Cars, Lucinda Williams is always good too!

little songs said: "John Denver"

ok, ok, I'll admit to listening to John Denver on the road. "Back Home Again" is ideal when you're in the middle of nowhere, like Nebraska!

"Cruise Control by the Dixie Dregs (my favorite band)" The first Steve Morse Band Album is great for driving. "More Ways than One" on the Peter Frampton album 'When All the Pieces Fit' is great for driving. Royksopp is a group that has great driving music, so does Robert Miles first album.....

Want to really annoy your teenage kids? When they got friends over, start playing Janis Joplins Pearl. And sing along, "Oh Lord wont you buy me a Mercedes benz".

Radio921 reported:

*thunk*

that's the sound of me fainting on the floor. Please, someone get the smelling salts. Another Steve Morse fan? Bless my soul, it's almost like Christmas.

So, 1st SMBand album. That would be The Introduction - with Cruise Missile on it (very cool song) also General Lee.

Haven't listened to that one in awhile - I think I'll pull it out of the cD rack to play.

Do you have any of his other stuff?

Hah DT - often, when I lived in Seattle, I would start my morning commute with "Hells Bells".

Rather fitting given the traffic up there.
