There was an old thread a while back talking about RDS and some stations doing it and others not.

Well someone must have been already thinking about that or they took it to heart cause I was channel surfing for kicks and giggles the other day and noticed "CBS" using scrolling RDS signal were they did not in the past.

Some stations that have added "HD Radio" also have analogue RDS. (presumably so when a radio loses a station's "HD" signal, theoretically it will still have station name, song title, etc. The problem is, not all "HD Radios" do RDS.)

Here in McMinnville I just added RDS/RBDS to our LPFM to scroll programme name and contact information on our radio text(RT) function and our station's name and website address on the programme service(PS) name. We also send out clock time as well.

It seems that some PDX stations send out clock time that is incorrect. I have an RDS radio that automatically sets its clock by RDS clock time and when I listen to some CBS stations(notably K-Hits) for any length of time, it resets my clock to the wrong time!

I have also noticed that most of the Clear Channel stations in PDX have incorrect PI settings but I'm sure that the CC engineering staff have more important things to deal with than this.(I've only seen 2 RDS radios that even display PI codes anyway...Microsoft's Zune and the Sangean HDT-1)

Even KSND in Salem has RDS although the last time I checked it only had a static call sign display.

CBS only had static call sign on a couple of stations and nothing on others until recently. Maybe like you said when they went HD they updated the RDS programming at the same time.
Just make since to use any measure of self promotion you have and one like RDs that is probably not all that expensive to do anyway!

My Zune has a really good RDS display when I use it to listen to FM Radio. You can see both the static and scrolling RDS at the same time!

Couple of things to mention here:

The CBS stations are not broadcasting in HD yet. The improvment in RDS/RDBS info is nice!

Time data (CT) on K-Hits (106.7) is still STD time. KINK, and one or two others have the correct time. Only a few stations in Portland appear to be transmitting the time data.

PI codes are indeed *really off* on some stations:

KIJZ (Hex 2623) is shown as KRFI (Hex 3D6E)
KKCW (Hex 2AB2) is shown as KPFH (Hex 3825)
KKRZ (Hex 2C3B) is shown as KABL (Hex 1025)

This seems to be more than just a simple error in entering a wrong digit in hex for the station, bad conversion program?

Okay, so you have to get technical! :-)

The main differences between the Euro system and ours is that most of the Programme Type(PTY) codes are different. No biggie.
