Freightliner Trucks no longer manufactured in PDX. West coast Freightliner branded trucks now to be built in Mexico. DUMB MOVE! Financially probably makes since but this will ruffle a few truckers feathers and maybe sway their decision to buy trucks manufactured in America by Americans. East coast Freightliner still on US soil for now but inventory supplied to the West coast will be from Mexico plants.
Bad news for Portland. It is not just the assembly line but tons of other facilities close by that do upholstry, electrical, etc, etc, all of which are either finished or soon will be.
Western Star production still will be done in PDX for now as well but will that be for long?

Heck...let's just move all plants down there then it will be the Mexican's complaining about all them Gringo's jumping the border and working illegally down there!

Thanks NAFTA!

Hey, maybe some Americans can sneak across the border and get jobs at the Freightliner plant in Mexico.

Then they can have kids and expect the Mexican Government to provide free medical care for them.

If the people of Mexico or the Mexican Government protest the ILLEGAL Americans there then maybe they can stop work for a day to prove that they are needed.

Naw....That wouldn't work.....The Mexican Government wouldn't put up with ILLEGAL Americans. They would be arrested and either put in jail or deported.

Wow. There's a novel idea!

One of the major reasons why NAFTA is a giant heap of steaming dung, IMHO. How many jobs are being shipped south of the border, in the interest of "free trade"?!?

The Freightliner factory here WILL remain open, producing White Star trucks I believe, but the majority of the workforce was laid off.

All of this free trade crap is for the birds. Yeah it helps the third-world countries and the little guy, and that's all fine and dandy ... but it kills good hard working American manufacturing jobs.

NAFTA.....Something that can be blamed on Clinton! (But I'm sure the Bush will be blamed anyway)

Yes, that was a Clinton thing ... but Bush, and a lot of other Republicans, heartily support NAFTA. It's a bi-partisan pile of crap.

I'm not blaming any one person here, I'm blaming the whole damn lot.

I agree. Blame them all.

OK...This might be off color and warped, but it's a thought I had today driving back from Tacoma;

We might have been better off if the plane that hit the Pentagon had hit Capitol Hill while they were in session instead.

My warped brain thinks of strange stuff when I'm tooling down the highway jamming on some good tunes!

Sometimes it takes something this direct ( and yet there are more direct reprecussions that I can feel right now ) to make something real. This stings.

Sometimes I feel like all we can do is take care of our own backyard. This one is in our backyard. I'm glad I don't like it. Sometimes I fear that nothing will ever effect me.

Sometimes.

I hate to see local jobs disappear. NAFTA, like the WTO, was protested by millions in the Americas and we were all told to STFU. Soon, the GOP put in the FNG and now PDX and the rest of the USA is FUBAR.

Sorry Missing, even our sacred thrones are made all over the planet. Welcome to the new world toilet:

"We are 61,000 people, in 50 countries, who are dedicated to 'raising the standard' every day."

LMAO!

Best place for good ideas in the whole world.

Worst place for a pillhead with gold lame around his ankles.
