Instead of providing free contraception, New York City wants to circumcise all male citizens. Issues like this can generate great quotes:

"Should we proceed when we don't have hard data yet on the population here?"

Everyone who supports control of the bodies of our women ought to be behind this idea all the way. With that said, the new "zip and snip" program ought to be a rousing success, dontcha think?

It just oozes innuendo.

It might be a dandy idea, but the angle seems to be that new immigrants have to think about surgery on their Peters, Petris, Pietros, Pyotrs and Pedros, and that is more than a little sinister.

If it had only come out on April 1, it would have been a coup.

Whats wrong with a Circumcision anyway? Not getting circumcised is gross and leads to infections and extra bacteria growth. I have a friend who didn't got circumcised until he was 26 and he said it was the most painfull, excrutiating experience he has ever felt. Even the pain meds didn't help. He couldn't have sex with his wife for over 3 months because his johnson was very tender and painful.

Nothing right or wrong about it. Like most ritual-type procedures like this, there is a clinical basis for it. Chance of infection in that area is reduced with circumcision. But, not being circumsized avoids the small risks of the procedure, and is not usually a big issue of infection if the penis is regularly and properly cleansed:

"In older boys and adult men, the foreskin slides back and forth over the penis, allowing the area underneath to be cleaned. The foreskin doesn't retract in boys for a few years. Don't try to force the foreskin to retract, because this can damage the penis and cause problems. When the foreskin is ready to retract, you can teach your son how to retract it himself and clean the skin underneath. He should wash his foreskin every day while bathing."

What an interesting, weird, uncomfortable topic...

Im sorry but not circumcising a baby boy after he is born is just plain stupid! That is poor parenting to leave a hood on a weenie!
