Former Reagan budget director Stockman, others charged in alleged fraud at auto parts maker
By LARRY NEUMEISTER (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
March 26, 2007 2:58 PM EDT

NEW YORK - David Stockman, the former budget director in the Reagan White House, was charged in an indictment unsealed Monday with overseeing a sweeping fraud at a troubled auto parts supplier that he led before the company collapsed into bankruptcy.

http://enews.earthlink.net/article/bus?guid=20070326/46075350_3422_1334620070326 1770831984

Actually, Stockman was one of the "good guys" . . .

Stockman was Reagan's budget director from 1981 to 1985. He created a storm early in his tenure when he told an interviewer that he thought Reaganomics were a "Trojan horse" for the rich, and predicted huge budget deficits. He said later he was summoned to the White House "woodshed" for his comments.

Stockman apologized and kept his job until 1985, when he resigned and wrote a book of scathing criticism of Reagan and his top aides.

As I recall, Mr. Stockman was seen by many in the Reagan administration as a turncoat, and possibly a little pink around the gills.

If you get Donald Regan or Edwin Meese on something like this, fine. Otherwise, it is hardly indicative of the Reagan administration.

Hah it reminds me of when I saw George Carlin in Spokane back in high school (1988, end of Reagan's tenure). His opening line:

"I haven't seen this many people in one place, at one time, since they took the group photograph of all the criminals and law-breakers in the Ronald Reagan administration." He then teed off specifically on Edwin Meese.

Carlin probably just nailed it too.

God, I love listening to that guy. He's great. Might piss you off, and that's just fine, but he's still really great!

KSKD - if you get a chance, read his books too. I have Brain Dropping and When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? ... it makes one sit there and wonder out loud, "Holy crap, where does he come up with this stuff?"

I'll have to do that.

I ask that question each time I've heard him go off. He thinks of things on a scale and from a perspective I find as intriguing as I do hilarious. It's a potent mix.

As a kid, I got into comedy albums even though that fad had already passed (late 70's). I got into my parents stash of Bill Cosby albums. One of the local FM stations used to play some comedy bits and that got me hooked on George Carlin. I picked up a couple of his albums, including one of his 60's material called "Take-Offs and Put-Ons." This was from before Carlin's comedy became racy - although still edgy for the time, I guess.

I always loved Carlin's "Wonderful WINO" disk jockey send-up plus, of course, Al Sleet the Hippy-Dippy weatherman.

Hah I stole "Occupation: Foole" from my father ... still have it, on vinyl. I don't even have a turntable anymore but I have that.

I used to walk around imitating his Biff Barf sportscaster bit. They just don't do it like they used to anymore.

They're ALL thugs on the right. I especially like the ones who hide behind religion to defend their actions, like Tom DeLay. I'm so glad that piece of trailer trash is gone.

Ya Gotta Love George!!!

YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN
by: George Carlin

I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American. I am George Carlin.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer; it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, try to do it in English.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever canceled Jerry Springer.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time arguing about it.

I've never owned a slave, or was a slave; I didn't wander forty years in the desert after getting chased out of Egypt. I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up already.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson practices, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think cops have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my driver’s license. I think it's good..... And I'm proud that "God" is written on my money. I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

And what is going on with gas prices... again?

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

If you are a BAD American too, please forward this to everyone you know.

We need our country back!

We NEED GOD BACK IN OUR COUNTRY!

I would rather live my life as if there is a
God, and die to find out there isn't, than
live my life as if there isn't, and die to
find out there is.

Ooops. Sorry about that.

I'm a big fan of Snopes and generally check things against it before I send them out or post them.

This just sounded so "Carlin" that I didn't even bother to check, although the thought of checking did cross my mind.

That being said, it is a good piece no matter who wrote it.

Really? Sounded Carlin-esque to you? First time it dropped into my inbox I smelled something fishy right away. It immediately swung way more blatently conservative that I've ever heard Carlin go...

I wasn't thinking about the political slant of it as much as the "delivery" and short snippets.

It is much more conservative than what I've heard him do also!
