7:00am on KGON an official announcement was made that "RUSH" will play the Clark County AMP on Saturday July 21st. Tickets on sale this Saturday 10:00am via ticketmaster. Maybe listen for a pre-sale for better tickets!

BrianL.....there ya go man! Looks like a short trip in the VAN! Word of advice though.....went to a major concert there last summer and was about a 90 minute ordeal to get out of the parking lot so that air-cooled machine may not fair so well unless you get premium parking then it is a faster out.

I AM SO THERE! See y'all at the concert!

Im debating whether I should drive the Yugo up to the Clark County AMP for Rush. I don't want to get stuck up in clark County! I've heard horror stories about that place.

Hey Darktemper,
Want to Carpool? I'll even drive. Id feel much safer having someone in the car if for some small reason the YUGO doesn't make it back.
Very small chance of my car breaking down.

We'd be coming from different directions. I practically live right next to the AMP. I am North of it. Maybe you and BrianL could carpool. Pretty sure he will be going. It is still a long way off so i'll leave that idea open. Carpooling and premium parking is defineately the best bet for a quick exit afterwards.

I'll load everyone in the Bus, when I went three years ago I drove the Bus then and that was with the tired old engine ... fresh new one now! I live ten minutes from the fairgrounds and getting in and out wasn't THAT bad ... no worse than an average sporting event, and God knows I've dealt with those in the past.

I'll probably sit on the hill, I'll have my 19 year old and possibly my nine-year-old (he really wants to go and there isn't the normal drug scene, etc. like a lot of other shows) but we should all meet up and say hi somewhere even if we don't all carpool!

w00t I'm so damn excited!

Just want to make sure you know that Billygan's is only for Pre-Concert burger and brew and the April 1st meet and greet is at the McMenamin's Ringler's Pub, street level below the the Crystal Ballroom at 1332 W. Burnside! Did not want you to "TAX" that Yugo to much, it sounds like it's kind of cranky and might get mad at you!

Roll the Bones was a great show! I had never really heard much Rush before the show (my girlfriend at the time was a fan, which made me a fan...) I thought they put on a fantastic show! the early 90's were great for super groups, I also saw; Fleetwood Mac (with Squeeze); and Yes. all in a span of just a few years. Which made my late teens/early 20's a great time for concerts.

Got the new album ... :-) and LOVING it! Alex does some incredible work in Snakes and Arrows, he really is underrated in the world of guitar ... they have two instrumental tracks, Alex solo in "Hope" which is amazing ... and "Malignant Narcissism", which was recorded basically when they guys were messing around. Neil was on what amounts to a child's four-piece drumset for that one and it just goes to show that it isn't the equipment, it's the person using that equipment ...

It is getting me MORE riled up! Copies are going fast too, I got the last copy at the Hazel Dell Fred Meyer and the lady told me that they went like hotcakes the day before.

I pre-ordred the new DVD-format and it should be here next week. Supposedly the audio tracks are better than the Std CD! Will let you know!

Details from their Website....which has been updated and is VERY COOL. www.rush.com

"Rush has recorded Snakes & Arrows on a new format called "MVI" (Music Video Interactive disc). Another name for this is the "DVD-Album". With a higher storage capacity than a standard CD, the MVI is loaded with exciting new features. Superior sound quality plus a wide range of video features and interactive digital content combine to bring you closer to the artists and their music. It plays in all standard DVD players, computers and game consoles with DVD drives. Digital music files are compatible with all MP3 devices. Please note that this MVI will not play in CD players."

Rush at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater
By Jeff Maisey

Rush fans struck gold when the Canadian rock band dug deep and mined some real musical gems from its past and present Friday night.

Without an opening act, Rush played two lengthy sets and an encore at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater.

Since the Canadian trio debuted with a self-titled album in 1974, the accomplished rock group has been known for its virtuoso musicians - Geddy Lee on vocals, bass and keyboards; Alex Lifeson, guitar; and Neil Peart on drums - and complex songcraft. Both were on full display.

Rush opened its first set in rousing form with "Limelight." The intensity of the musicianship set the tone for the entire show. Lee's high-pitched voice soared, on key throughout, his rampaging bass lines driving each tune like NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt Sr. in his heyday.

Lifeson, who had several dolls attached to paper signs with such phrases as "My grandpa says you're cool" and "I like the drummer" placed at the base of his foot- operated effects pedals, was masterful in every aspect, whether switching mid-tune from electric to acoustic instruments, managing dynamic changes within songs or nailing the solos.

The fan favorite, however, seemed to be Neil Peart. Grown men in the audience were doing their best air-drum impersonations.

Peart, considered by many as one of the best drummers of all time, was surrounded by what looked to be more than 20 pieces of percussion. All were incorporated into his "drum clinic." During his phenomenal solo in the second set, his drum station rotated 180 degrees and the tones changed from traditional to electronic.

There were a few more lines in their faces, perhaps, but time clearly didn't diminish their playing abilities.

"They seem to get better with age," said Randy Bristow, 41, of Virginia Beach.

Early in the initial set, Rush enthusiasts were treated to the rarely performed "Entre Nous," a melodic, passionate piece from the "Permanent Waves" album.

As the sun began to set on the first portion of the concert, "Freewill" and "Circumstances" shed further light on the golden era of Rush. After "Dreamline," the group took a well-deserved intermission.

Rush's Beach performance was one of nearly 45 stops on their tour of North America in support of the new full-length album "Snakes & Arrows," which recently debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

They were keen to showcase much of the new recording at the start of the second half. Each had an accompanying artistic visual component displayed on the three screens behind the band. "Far Cry," "Workin' Them Angels" and "The Way the Wind Blows" were well-received. "The Main Monkey Business," a heavy instrumental reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, played in the first set, was better live than on the CD.

When Geddy Lee switched to his synthesizer for "Subdivisions," the audience roared with its loudest approval of the night, but not for long. Following a fun version of the rock 'n' roll classic "Summertime Blues," Lifeson's instantly recognizable flurry of guitar notes at the introduction of "The Spirit of Radio" had a sea of people clapping with hands extended over their heads. "Tom Sawyer," a radio staple once played to death on the airwaves, was the perfect climax, and a semi-euphoric state reverberated around the shed.

The classic Rush material was an enjoyable flashback, but the songs performed from "Snakes" were evidence these aging rock stars are exploring new and interesting hemispheres.

You know whats awesome? A band like Rush putting out a great new album. Its a rarity these days to have a classic rock band continue to make new albums that are actually good! Take the Rolling Stones for instance, Great band back in the day. But there new albums are pieces of shit! They are just making them to stay relevent, which is a shame. STOP MAKING NEW ALBUMS ROLLING STONES, THEY ARE AWFUL!!!! Glad to see Rush can actually pump out "GOOD" new material.
Anybody know if Rush's new album is getting any airplay in portland????

KGON at least was playing "Far Cry." Really good stuff.
Now, most of the time I turn on KGON and they're playing Rush, it's "Tom Sawyer" or "Closer to the Heart" or something we've all heard off of Chronicles a hundred thousand times. (I'm not complaining, better than not playing them at all; but how did the stuff on Chronicles become classics in the first place? AIRPLAY?!)

Its odd to have a classic Rock band, who continues to put out GREAT new material, it looks like Rush is the exception! Good stuff! Kudos to Kgon for playing their new single!

They are scheduled to perform 9 of the 11 tracks at the concert.....again unheard of from any band on tour! Still with 30 songs in the lineup that leaves plenty of room for the seasoned classics as well

OK....who's going? I will be at Billygans in Salmon Creek at about 4:30 in the bar Saturday prior to the concert along with Brian. I would volunteer to drive one or two others and have a premium parking pass to get us out quicker after the show. If interested or just want to hang before the show maybe see ya there! Look for a middle-aged dude, slightly balding, wearing a Rush t-shirt! Don't yell out DT cause the local transients may think your talking to them!

Hey Timberfake....if you are going and need a ride let me know and i'll see if I can help out!

I'll try to make it, the only problem is my mother is in town, and well.....I made the mistake of opening up my mouth and telling her that Im going to See Rush. She demanded that I take her to Rush.
She's a big Rush fan. Would you guys care if I brought Momma Timberfake along? She drinks and smokes a pack of Marlbro Reds a day(Cough, cough) She smells like a dirty ash tray and complains about her heartburn every 10 minutes, but other than that, she is the life of the party.

Just picked up "Snakes and Arrows" ..."Not too Shabby!"

"Far Cry" starts the album with a bang. I also liked the packaging of my particular copy of the CD. Cardboard case with a small plastic insert for the CD. No sticker across the top of the case to have to peel off. Yay!

I hate most commercial CD packaging with their crappy jewel cases and those *#@!ng lame a$$ stickers across the top of the things. No wonder more people are going to Internet downloads.

I would be going to the concert, but the people that were going to go with me have to work Saturday night--bummer! Hope all of you have a good time!

Yeppers.....got my tickeet...Brian has his, premium parking pass, yep....all set. You goin? If you are i'll/we'll be at Billygan's about 4:30 for a beer and a burger prior to the show. I gave my son $20 last year at Def Leppard, he cam back with a burger, fry, and small pop.......and no change! I hear the Beer is like $8.00 or so for.....less than desireable but consumeable beer. Have not heard for sure if Timberfake and Momma Timberfake are going though!

I just picked up my tickets today. If you have the stomach, Craigslist is a great way to get a good deal on tix a few days before a show. Paid $40 each for tickets that were $70 (with the ticketmaster non-lubed anal probe fees included).

Rush is one of the best bands of all time, and I can't wait to see them again!!!! Now all I need to do is figure out how to sneak in enough Maker's Mark to last the entire show!

I think I heard Iris saying something about winning front-row tickets today when Glynn Shannon comes on shift at 2 and plays the first Rush song?

KY lube not necessary....

Getting booze into a show? I use either my (ample) cleavage and/or a contact lens solution bottle in my full pack (clothes, etc.). They've never checked.

Hey....my hearing is starting to return.....I don't need the TV on full volume to hear it now.....3/4 volume and I can just make things out! Last night on the drive home had the Bose full power and it sounded like it was barely on! OH....and great timing on KGON on the album side weekend to have a "RUSH" album side on right after the show! At least "Marty" was at the station holding down the fort!

What a thrill it was to be at this concert! I became a Rush fan in 1982 when I saw the video "Tom Sawyer" on MTV and have loved them ever since. I could not get over how good the band sounded and it's 2007!! I was in the lower section of 201, we had the perfect seats! It was really great to see so many Rush fans having as good a time as I was.

I was especially happy to hear these gems live:

Digital Man
Entres Nous
Circumstances
Witch Hunt
A Passage to Bangkok
and of course...YYZ!!!!!

Song of the night: Subdivisions. That song absolutely rocked, and it seemed like every single person there was singing along! And Geddy Lee going from bass to synthesizer was awesome!

Of their new stuff, I was very impressed with:

Far Cry
Armor and Sword
Workin' Them Angels
The Larger Bowl
The Main Monkey Business
and...the best song on the new album: Malignant Narcissism.

If you are a Rush fan, you are an idiot of you don't go out and buy this album. I haven't been a huge fan of some of the recent Rush albums, but this one is very good.

Neil Peart's drum solo was amazing. He is the best drummer of all time.

Alex Lifeson was ripping it up on guitar.

And Geddy Lee, my god, this guy's voice was still hitting the high notes and his work on the bass was amazing as expected. Geddy Lee rocks!!!

The thing that impresses me so much about Rush is it's 3 guys. And it's been the same guys all these years. There was no other back up at all! Just 3 guys absolutley rocking out.

What a show. I could have sat through another two hours of music if the band was willing.

Can anyone confirm that the playlist posted much earlier in this thread is 100% accurate for last night? When I go to a concert, I like to make a concert playlist on my iPod.

Glad you all enjoyed it.

And oh man, look at Dark! He's done been converted, sweet Jesus, praised be! It's all over but the coming home!

I love RUSH, always have since the very first tune I ever heard. That reaction from newbies is always the sweetest. It's like a drug, I swear. Same feeling, same reaction.

BTW......What is up with wearing ear plugs at a concert....bunch of weenies!

I have a simple belief when Rock is concerned:

"If it ain't worth listening to loud it ain't worth listening to at all!

I'm one of those!

I take a few sets. 15Db, 30Db & 40db. When I was 18, one particularly loud concert left me with a single, quiet tone in the right ear. Over the years, it's come and gone --mostly gone.

That scared me, so I like to keep things at about 100Db, with the occasional peak above that. Plenty loud --and I can still hear 19Khz at nearly 40! (this matters as I help produce the occasional CD --don't want to have to guess and use the spectrum like a lot of others I know.)

The last live performance I attended was the "We Will Rock You" at Paris / Las Vegas. Excellent sound management. Room was just perfect at the 100, with peaks over that, for brief and intense times. No plugs required.

Vitalogy - yes, I loved some of the B side stuff. I was stoked at Entre Nous and Natural Science ... two songs off of Permanent Waves that you NEVER hear. Same with Circumstances and Digital Man.

And, I **LOVE** their version of Summertime Blues. I'm not a big fan of covers, but they go nuts on it. I loved it at the R-30 show and I loved it last night.

I come away each time with much more respect for Alex. You don't realize just how damned good he is until you see them live and witness it (at least I didn't) ... I was disappointed that they didn't play Working Man, Alex going off on that makes me want to crap my pants. He is truly amazing. Hell ALL THREE of them are, and the best part is that you can tell that they were having a blast up there. They've been together for over 30 years, and they STILL enjoy their craft.

Truly an incredible show. Best $80 I ever spent, and I am never sitting on that damn hill for a Rush concert again!

If you wait ten years, you can get one in a frame for $1,000 on eBay. ;0)

I am really sorry that I missed the show. Workity work will put the pinch on the party every time.

I knew it was something special when I read Darktemper's utterly floored, "OH MY GOD."

It is really amazing how some artists get better and better isn't it? Not merely cashing in on youth, but developing a voice, and writing a story over decades. Long live Rock! Long live Rush!

So, just to get the ball rolling nice and early -- or should I say "Bones" rolling? -- who else is in for their next show?

They didn't play Red Barchetta? Having grown up on early MTV days, it made me think that song was a staple.

I saw Rush on the Signals tour. Looking back ( and after watching their Rio DVD ) the visuals were hilariously primitive. It still goes down as the most stoned I have ever been at a concert though. And that includes the time I paid 10 bucks at ACDC for a spot of wood filler...which I was told was hash.

It wasn't.
