KDUK appears to still be CHR/Pop. It may have more of a rhythmic lean than before.

Definately more rhythmic leaning..I don't hear much pop at all...what I do hear is a station reacting to the 99 Watt Peanut Whistle...I miss the Alt/Zit rock that KDUK used to play.

It WAS a different era, but KDUK's highest numbers occured when they were a mainstream (almost adult-leaning) top40 in the late 90's. However, there was no real competition then! Not sure there really is today, either. Food for thought?

Hip hop IS top 40 today, so it's not really a huge surprise. What's called pop top 40 is really ADULT top 40, today. Where would KDUC be if another station was allowed to take away their 12-24 listeners? Probably not in very good shape, would be my guess.

I would think just about any music station would have to have some 25-54 presence to survive. I'd say the days of a station relying on 12-24 are long gone. It almost killed AOR before they refocused on 25-34.

The sad part is KDUK sounds WAAAAY better than Z100! Z100 is pathetic! That whole station is ran by 12 and 13 year olds.

From what I've heard, KDUK hasn't reacted to KDPM. KDUK's Rhythmic-leaning CHR format has sounded about the same for the past year.

There is a hole for Adult CHR in Eugene/Springfield, and Cumulus would be wise to fill it. 102.3 would provide a great signal for the format.

Concur, but isn't this what Star has been attempting for a number of years? Nobody is asking for my opinion, but hire a strong local morning show, brighten up the music, and try to sound confident with your imaging and marketing. Not too complicated...(I just can't seem to stay away from analyzing my former markets!)

Last spring, Star 102.3 morphed into a poorly programmed Bright AC, leading to an all-time ratings low in the Fall Book.

Didnt it all happen when Terry Jonz took over as PD ? He came from Magic 94 and they currently play most of the same songs that Star 102.3 is playing. How annoying..Show some creativity.

Yes, but, knowing Cumulus, the programming could be the product of a corporate consultant.

I don't think the PD has much input. It's more a figure head position. I interviewed with a Cumulus station in Colorado and the programming is definitely dictated from "on high." I passed. From what I understand from one of their PDs, internally they're not called Program Directors anymore, their titles are Local Brand Manager.

That sucks that most Pds are just corporate puppets and have NO say over their station. Really anymore, whats the point of having PD's if they get ZERO say on the music ect. Musically K-duk sounded awesome back in the mid 90's. THey were top 40 but they leaned heavily on the grunge rock that was coming out at the time. Anybody notice that Kduk uses the EXACT same voing guy as on jammin. JAAAAAAmin NINETEEEEEY Five??? Sounds A LOT better than the WEAK voice guy that Z100 has.

I thought the new duties for the PD title were Station Babysitter. Duties include possible live morning show, overseeing voicetrackers, loading pre chosen music into Selector, empting trash, writing dry linercards, and sitting in office dreaming of what you would do if you were actually allow to "Program" the station.

Kduk is still Chr/pop I heard The Fray and Snow Patrol on kduk today. With competition they are probably starting to add more hip hop especially if they want to survive.

94.9 has a decent signal, considering it's a translator. It can be heard, 50+ miles away from Eugene.

94.9 is what the kids are listening to. And that's their audience. KDUK isn't matching their listenership. As a cultural studies professor, I have to note these things. And the music they listen to sucks ass.

Many people have made the switch to 94.9, and they're selling a ton of spots! Steve Master has proven himself as a successful local owner.

While being up for sale, KDUK hasn't done much to keep it's audience tuned in, and 94.9 has taken full advantage of this. "Jamz" has been giving away large amounts of cash, concert tickets, t-shirts, etc., and they've been all over the streets. They brought E-40/Twista and Mike Jones to Eugene, and filled every seat. 94.9's signal isn't always receivable on cheap clock radios, or inside office buildings, but their signal is solid in the car. It was even fairly solid on a Sony Walkman, while traveling along Beltline in N. Eugene. Quite impressive!

A reminder to my radio brethren that any attempt by a radio employee to get a diarykeeper to write down more listening than actually occurred, or to try to contact that diarykeeper, or to obtain that diary, is a violation of subscriber agreements. The employee’s station would be delisted from the book, and in certain cases Arbitron will prosecute the individual who attempted or who obtained the diary. Many of those who hire in radio check out this site. My advice: completely ignore the previous post, and move on to another thread. Nothing to see here.

Radioexpert-- "Many people have made the switch to 94.9, and they're selling a ton of spots! Steve Master has proven himself as a successful local owner." That might be a bit premature. Playing commercials proves nothing. Find out how much of those commercials is trade. Next find out how much the spots are really going for...a dollar? fifty cents a shot? Looking at the monthy billing would show the true story. Arbitron and car radios rarely mean success. It's a great start, but listening at the workplace would mean much more. Making a splash and creating a vibe is great. But what happens after the splash? The low power is still the same. The target demographic is still the same. Hopefully the cume and shares have increased due to the splash, but can that target low-income demographic combined with a low power survive in the long run?

Of course, playing commercials proves nothing about how much money a station is making. I'm guessing they're selling spots for a very low price. However, I'm still betting that they're making some money with the station.
