Hey guys, I'm cross-posting from OMI because I don't know how many of you get over there and I'm wondering if anyone's heard anything:

As I thumbed through the paper this morning, my eye fell on the back page of the classifieds, which happened to have "R" at the top left. Imagine my surprise when I saw this, which I then dug up online:

RADIO AM 620 KPOJ - Portland's Only Progressive Talk Station looks to add a Part Time live, local host to our morning show. Must be a team player who can help deliver interesting, entertaining and relevant programming to our progressive listeners. Must know and understand local and national issues and the people involved. Talk radio experience preferred.

So did Thom finally get too exhausted to do two full radio talk shows a day? Is Heidi going away? Or is someone else being brought in to the team, which seems unlikely?

Guess: Thom will transition out of doing the local show, at least all three hours of it. Then they'll put Thom's national show on live 9-noon. Broadcasting Sam Seder 2X a day is just lame. A couple of Fridays ago Seder's show was a "best of" which means some of us who listen often had to hear the same stuff for a 3rd or 4th time! Or tune into Stephanie Miller...

Perhaps KPOJ is planning to go to a three-person format they originally considered for the local show. That would at least ease Thom's workload. Give him more time for show prep for the national show. Let someone else do some of the interviews. Six hours a day has got to wear a person down.

Lars has been doing that a lot longer than Hartman. But you blast him and give Hartman a pass.

I'm not a Lars fan but you need to apply the same rules across the board.
Six hours a day. Wow. Most people work 8+ hours a day and many of those are more intensive jobs than being a well researched program host.

harv, ever run out of material 1/3 of the way into your slot at the mike and no callers on the line and your boss is watching??

at times like these, landing stacks of 747 circling JKF or doing heart surgery may be less stressful.

Hey Humbleharv your out of bounds.

Hartman has been doing 6 hour days since he got in radio.

Unlike Lars Hartman is also an author. So he uses time also to write and do book signings.

As of Lars he is just a jerk who's show is almost totally prepared as a drum machine for the far right. He repeats their talking points, even when they are wrong.

Also if you try to correct him he tries to have you arrested for pointing out his lies.

Wrong - I have never blasted Lars for his work ethic. On the contrary, I have praised him for his professionalism more than once on this board. I simply disagree with his point of view. He's a partisan host (just like Hartmann is) and when I disagree with him, I'll say so. I don't always agree with Hartmann, either.

You're naive if you think doing 6 hours of talk radio is 2 hours less than an "8 hour day." It takes hours to do show prep for a good show. Hartmann packs his six hours with interviews. He has to at least skim their books, know what they've said in the past, who they are, etc. Plus to keep his show topical, he must keep up on current events. And probably edit his latest book or be working on the next one. I'm guessing Hartmann is working 12+ hour days routinely.

I don't know how many interviews Lars does in a day - I don't listen to his show enough to know (like, almost never). But I surely admire anyone who works that hard, including Lars.

I have to say 6 HOURS of talk sure seems like a very long time to me! 6 hours of a music/DJ show would be ungodly.

Lars (and anyone) is nuts to do two shows. The fact that he been doing it for a couple of years now is literally unbelievable. I honestly think management is WRONG to give a person 2 gigs like that. Man, what are they trying to kill the guy? Yeah, nobody's forcing him, but man, it's like putting a bowl full of antifreeze in front of a dog. I hope Lars chooses one or the other (actually the local gig...how much money does a guy need? Doing a local show in PDX is about as good as it's going to get in this business.)

Ambition is usually a good thing, but Lars, you're already at the top Ease off the pedal and enjoy it.

On Friday, Hartmann had Carl Wolfson on his show for the full 3 hours. I've also heard him replace Randi Rhodes reruns 12-2P on a couple of Saturdays. Either they are trying him out or they plan to incorported him in the lineup. I think they might put him in the evening slot 6-9P which currently is the second airing of Sam Seder.

Remember that Lars and Hartman are working two different "jobs" for two different companies....Lars national show is now on around 180 stations I believe.....
