I'm going to guess Bend has Fall and Spring ratings. If that's the case, we have awhile to wait. I think Bend's been added to the list of rated markets.

You can find the Bend 12+ ratings at Allaccess.com under "Industry Tools", then "Arbitron". Registration required.

I don't think the moderator likes us quoting Arbitron numbers here. Violates ARB copyright. Not sure, but I think so. AllAccess and R&R do it with permission.

The longtime consensus on this board has been that the un-dayparted 12+ numbers are okay. Anything beyond that is a matter of some disagreement.

I am quoting All Access, not Arbitron! Yes, 12+ and other demos have been posted here for years...(if Dan has a problem with it he can remove them, and to my knowledge, never has).

The Oregonian used to print the ratings when they came out. Do they still do that?

GCC has applied to make some major changes in Bend. They've applied to move KXIX, Bend (C0) from 94.1 to 92.9, while moving KRXF, Sunriver (C2) from 92.7 to 94.1. This would leave room for 94.3 (C2) in Government Camp.

Since the "Radio Rangers" disappeared from KICE the Bend market has become very boring.

Word on that. I'd love to hear the new Active Rock/Alt station though. Anyone have an air-check? Please email!

It's not like they're planning an all encompassing coverage of the environs of Government Camp! Licensing there enables them to have their tower on Mt Hood.

They could broadcast "All Ski music all the time" or better yet Christmas music! How about this one: "This is your Yodeling station, KYOD where Slim Whitman is KING!"

In that case, they could repeatedly air the soundtrack from "Mars Attacks".

"I'd love to hear the new Active Rock/Alt station though. Anyone have an air-check? Please email!" 92/7 FM (KRXF) is very "Alternative" sounding, while mixing in bands like Guns N' Roses. Based on what I've heard, 92/7's format isn't mainstream enough to last. I expect them to evolve into more of a "New Rock" format, as times goes on.

Don't have much radio info. on this. In the Sunday Oregonian Obit it mentions Richard 'Dick' E. Gervais who founded KICE died March 5, 2007 he was 73. KICE was Bend radio's first FM station and Central Oregon's 2nd, going on the air July 4, 1973. I don't know what his title was at KICE. The station was sold on June 13, 1979 to Sequoia Communications, Inc. but there might have been an earlier sale. The Obit also mentions he was Mayor of Bend in the 1970's. He was born in Burns and the family moved to Beaverton where he graduated from Beaverton High School in 1952 and OSU in 1956 where upon he moved to Bend to live.

92.7 sounds great. There was a alternative /mainstream rock hole in the C.O. market after Laser went classic rock. I hope Bend Radio Group gives this format a real chance.

Hopefully, "92/7 FM" will last longer than a couple of years. It's nice to have true Alternative back in Bend, for the first time since "X94" changed to Heritage Rock in early 1999. With Alternative now covered in Bend, there's still a hole for some form of Active or Heritage Rock.

There isn't much of a hole just about anywhere for both Alternative and Active Rock. A combination might be a better idea, particularly in a smallish area such as Bend.

With true Alternative on 92.7, Bend could still use an Active Rocker like Eugene's KFLY. For several years, Medford has been home to both Alternative (96.9 KROG) and Active Rock (106.3 KZZE). It's interesting to note that Entercom owns both 99.9 KISW (Active Rock) and 107.7 KNDD (Alternative) in Seattle. The same is true in Sacramento, where Entercom owns both 98.5 KRXQ and 106.5 KWOD.

I spoke with Michael briefly about the station a couple of months back and it definitely sounded like they were going to play with the music. I got the feeling GCC had high hopes for the format and expected it to become a moneymaker in line with Power 94.

92.7 KRXF has now been on the air, for over 4 months. It'd be nice to see something more than the station's logo on the website! How about some staff and playlist info?

I heard a voice-tracked female, a couple of Sundays ago. However, I didn't hear anyone on 92/7 FM, during a brief period of listening, yesterday afternoon (in Albany). Apparently, the personalities don't talk very often.

Eastern Oregon News from All Access: LOR LLC Country KSRV/Ontario OR has jettisoned its format and become Adult Hits "Bob FM 96.1" serving Boise and the Western Treasure Valley. The station was previously known as "The Bull", that format will be shifted to sister KSRV-A.
