Fred Thompson announced yesterday he was thinking of making a run for the presidency.

Given the voters history of loving actors and stars, it could be an interesting situation to watch.

At this point, I have no idea what he stands for, but I sure like him in the movies.

Really, they could have summarized all the voting record very simply:
Voted YES for anything benefiting large corporations.
Voted YES for anything that limits the rights of minorities.

"Fred Thompson is a Moderate Populist Conservative. "

HUH? Which is it? You can't be 3 things at once Fred.

What a wreck!

And sure he can. If the checks are big enough, PR for the stupid is managable.

Let's face it, Fred Thompson just looks like he ought to be President.

Thompson was good in the remake of "Cape Fear" a few years back with Robert DeNiro. He couldn't be much worse than Bush. Could he?

"He couldn't be much worse than Bush. Could he?"

Is that the standard for presidential competence today? If you're better than Bush, you're qualified? We're in deep doo-doo then...

Er, that response was toungue-in-cheek. (Thompson wasn't really that great in "Cape Fear" - DeNiro was though.)

Ditto my comment, Andrew.

Still, Bush sure has lowered the bar, eh?

Bush has proved that anyone can *BE* president. Be a good one? Different story.

The most important qualifications of a good presidential candidate today are ability to raise money, "likeability," and raw ambition. These qualities mean little in terms of someone's qualifications to BE a good president.

We should really go to a system where we have an "out front" PR type person, then the real, intelligent, qualified, reasonable President in the background doing all the work.

And no, not like BUSH and CHENEY now, even though it's similar, in structure only.

Interesting thought, but what you're really saying is that the voters are to stupid to look beyond that glib front person there for the purpose of seducing them. I agree.

Deane, for once, we agree. That's exactly what I was saying. Voters don't take the time to study.

Just remember Thompson is on the Fundrasing Committee for Scooter Libby's defense fund.

Now why isn't that getting the same level of coverage. From most reporters I have heard that they don't write attack pieces they leave that to other groups and then report it.

The Democrats are to civilized to attack Thompson, and the Republicans are not sure where to go after the Libby conviction. So to take the fundraising spotlight off himself and still be able to keep his television consulting job Thompson announces that he is running for President at this time other wise he might lose his consulting gigs, while still raising money for Libby while going on talking head shows and declaring that Libby should be pardoned.

And the press is liberal, compared to what?
