Last evening while listening to KMHD, the stations general manager did a spot about the upcoming pledge drive. He mentioned that 'local groups' were trying to change the dirction of KMHD away from Jazz to mirror the interests of younger audience.
Is this really the case? Or is this just trying to get the funds coming in from the jazz lovers early in the pledge period?
Could we see KMHD move to Hip-Hop and other music listened to by the students?

Speaking of 'Pledge Drives'. . .what is up with the very long ten day drive that KBPS just concluded?
At least we hope it is over! My gawd--it was non-stop talk/chatter with hourly goals and so on. . .way over the top.

Sounds like KMHD might be blowing out the older jazz and leaning younger jazz. I can\'t see a hip-hip crowd donating to a hip-hop station pledge drive.

KBPS-FM rakes in some pretty big bucks from the classical audience. 10 days = more $

Or maybe KMHD will be attracting a younger audience by blowing out the slow, easy listening jazz that's popular with older generations and leaning towards the older wilder swing and jump blues which has been popular with younger audiences since the swing revival started about ten years ago.

This whole situation seems rather strange to me. (probably because I don't know anything about it)Who are these "local groups?" I wonder. It seems like KPLU is quite successful here in Seattle. How has KMHD been doing in the past couple of years?
