He was one of the greats in these parts. I hope his band -- arguably one of the best anywhere -- continues his legacy. Truly sad. |

Oh man, that is very sad. I've been going to see him for years. Started way back with Brown Sugar, with Jim Mesi and Lloyd Jones. Then years of the Paul Delay Band at fine clubs and bars all over PDX. What a talent on harp! The last few years when I saw him he seemed to have gained lots of weight. Could still play though. Leukemia, wow... |

"KQ4's first free concert. Brown Sugar plays at Mt. Tabor, May 20, 1973. The park held 1,500. Portland police said 5,000 were jammed in the park and another 5,000 were turned away. The cops dispatched 50 units to the scene and called it 'the biggest traffic jam in Portland history.'" |
