Dj: Do you look at the ratings or are you just listening to the voices in your head? Overall, Z is tied (12+) with Jammin.

My daughters love Z100, I dont like it, just because i dont like it doesnt mean its bad.

Only really bad radio station is charlie, and I know of no one that likes it.

I *used* to be a Z listener, back in the mid-90s, Junior High (Cascade, Class of '99, a.k.a. "The Best For Last" according to Mr. Wichar.....yes, "Den Mark" Wichar) in Seventh Grade and I was too young/dumb to know "good radio" even if I had heard it then, but it seemed to drop out of favour when I got into High School (EHS Class of '02.) Jacor's assimilation into the Cheap Channel collective, I don't think, helped improve it. In fact, I think it (and events/technologies included in the deal) only contributed to its downfall. From that point forward I kept on KISN' all the way! And now aside from GH or KBOO, it seems my radio's in a state of limbo.........although there's always Muzak if nothing else.............

Don't really like Jammin' too much tho. I like hip-hop (don't get me wrong) but it seems the kind they play on 95.5 is a bit too, I dunnow, "hardcore" for my taste. (I tend to favour Run DMC, The Sugarhill Gang or even Ini Kamoze, for a general idea.)

Movin gets old FAST. I listened pretty often for a week and heard Paula Abdul's Straight Up about 6 times. I'd disagree about Charlie. I like that you never know what you are going to get there.
Z100 to me has seemed dead to me since it's big air talent left. It's funny to see Nelson (BUZZ), Dr. Doug, Skippy(Charlie), Mike Chase(WOLF), Dan Clark(KPAM) and most likely Stacey Lynn(MOVIN) all former Z100 DJ's in their own morning shows now.

Movin and Z100 are AWFUL, z10o takes the cake. Music is pitched up way too fast and the dj's sound like young punks right out of High School. Too bad Stacey Lynne is on Movin because that station is unlistenable and will be gone in a year!
Charlie is by far the best station in portland, hands down! Great variety, good music. Charlie should grab Stacey and bring her to mornings with Doug and Skippy.

They are all terrible (well most of them anyway). None of them seem to have more than 3 solo Hagar tunes in their playlists and those rarely see the light of day. His Sammy Halen stuff gets a lot of air time but he has some truly great solo pieces that are completely lost. Like a lot of "B" side stuff from other great arists is also lost. It will be my mission to SAMunize the airwaves! I add it in surveys when I can and make requests when I can for his stuff. "B" side crusadeing will also be on the mission list....not enough of it and to much top 40 in the rotation!
"B" sides would do wonders ratings wise. Just to change things up and refresh the playlists.

BTW....I am in no way employed at any radio station if that is what you were wondering (just a listener). Had a few people in the business I would have considered as friends if we had been neighbors. They were not treated very well from my perspective. Have learned much since those first days mainly how to not put my own foot in my mouth in here!(well most of the time anyway)

Darktemper, It sounds like you know an aweful lot about radio to just be a listener.When did you work for CBS? And anyone on here with any knowledge knows B sides would be radio repellant. There is a reason why those B side songs were not hits in the first place..NO ONE CARES about them. But you want to sched a days worth of "who cares" songs and think people will come running????...ummm yeah, ok. Back to original post, Z100's music is right on the money, the weak dj's are the problem.

The weak dj's is the problem with Z100 ALONG WITH THE FAST PITCHED MUSIC! Z100 has had Weak dj's for a while. They no longer care about air talent and will put pretty much put anybody on the air! The music on Z100 sounds like Chipmunks! Z100 needs to clean house and get rid of the entire airstaff starting with Buckhead! That show is unlistenable!

To be honest i think most of the stations in portland are sounding like Crap! Not trying to hate, just being honest.
Starting with Movin 1075- That station is truely AWFUL and absolutely UNLISTENABLE! The music is Terrible and so damn cheesy. Every time I turn them on they are playing Paula Abduel. Who in the hell wants to hear a Crackhead has been like Paula Abduel??? They don't play new music, which is insane because hearing cheesy 80's songs will get old really quick. That station needs an air staff badley! I heard Stacey Lynn in the afternoon the other day and she sounds Voicetracked! She is a great talent but something seems missing. The music is awful and needs to be completely revamped. Get someone who knows what they are doing with the music.
Z100-dj's are unrelatable, and sound like young high school punks. Hey look at me, Im buckhead, Im cool! No you're not!
Charlie- sounds pretty good, the morning show is good, and the music variety is really good! Which is why everyone at my work listens to charlie!

MOVIN 1075 BLOWS big time! By far one of the most ridiculous stations to ever come to portland. Nobody is listening. Blow up the station and go all spanish.

Believe what you will but not in and never have been in radio....just interested in it. It is not hard to pick up on things reading the different posts in here and then connecting the dots to fill in the blanks. So you say that "B" sides are who cares radio so it is better to play the top 40 until listeners no longer give a rip about them and your station? You cannot keep playing only top 40 music and hope to keep listeners satisfied. That is the exact reason I have made an investment in a ZUNE and expanding my CD library. I tire of the same VH, Beatles, Aerosmith, etc. etc. top 40 all of the time. Go ahead and keep beating the top 40 to death and when ratings drop then flip it and beat another format's top 40 to death. I mean that is how it is done right. When something gets old and boring, flip it and beat that down, rinse and repeat as often as necessary. If this is the future of radio then i'll just go offline with my own stuff. Right now there are only a couple of stations I will listen to(that are listenable). When I no longer find those entertaining I will pursue other media.

I was in the car with my GF yesterday and I noticed that even she (who was about the first and only Movin' fan I knew) has switched... to Jammin (ugh).

you people who keep talking crap about z100's jocks need to put your crackpipes down. their jocks aren't bad at all. they actually sound pretty good. maybe you just can't be objective?

The Buckhead show is bad! Ive said it before that Chase is decent.
The jocks on Z100 today are average, no they are not horrible, but they are nothing to brag about. Comparing the jocks today on Z100 to the jocks 6 or 7 years ago is like night and day! The station just doesn't have the talent like they used to. Chase is the best thing going for that station, every one else on that station is completely unmemorable and brings nothing to the table which is why Z100 uses the term "More music less talk." I also would like to say that Kristina is also one of the better jocks on that station.

It comes down to this basic fact: Cheap Channel is not spending money on jocks! It cuts down on the budget and saves them money, which is why you have jocks from Eugene now working on Z100! 10 years ago that would have BEEN UNHEARD OF! Are the jocks awful on Z100 today, NO, but they are not as strong as a lot of the jocks that Z100 has had on in the past. I don't want to start comparing jocks BUT Ck and th bad Boy Broadcast on from 7-12am was pretty damn good on the air, he could have easily have done mornings on Z100 at the time. The guy that Z100 currently has on from 7-12am is not bad, but he just doesn't have the experience or talent.

you all must be male and out of the demo. just about every girl i know (and most are under 30) talk about stuff they heard on the buckhead show. they think buck is cute and funny. they never talked about z100's former show (chet b), nor do they talk about z100's has beens of 6 to 7 years ago. buckhead must be doing something right with his target.

So why is Buckhead off at 9am?? Just curious. Why was his syndicated show taken off of Kduk in such a short period of time??

Chet Buchanan did mornings at KKRZ just before Buckhead. Before spending some time in Seattle, he was an evening jock during Z100's heyday.

i am not buckhead. i just think the haters on here are pathetic. post your airchecks on here and then you MIGHT have the right to criticize someone else's show. i doubt it, but maybe you are that good.

what's really sad is that a lot of the BS that is thrown at people on here comes from their own coworkers. maybe if the energy you put into backstabbing could be channeled into your job (craft, art, whatever), we'd have a better product to listen to.

Actually, the punctuation was fine. The sentence structure/grammar might be a little off but overall, how the dude wrote is just as good as or better than what most other people have written.

For what its worth Z100 beat Jammin in about every daypart....For that type of music apparently its doing better than Jammin...
