Funny habits and traits that seem common no matter where you travel.

Ever notice that the fancier and bigger the Truck that there appears to be a desperate need to be out front of everyone else...especially small import cars. No matter if you are going 80 they have to be out front. Does the big fancy truck inflate the ego and drive to be superior to everyone else on the road? Just something to ponder....anyone else notice this trait?

And what about Prius or Insight owners? Why do they feel the need to jump in the fast lane posted at 70MPH when that is all the faster there cars will go. GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY and let us gas gusslers through! Is it a status thing....oh..look at me..i'm driving a fuel efficient eco friendly vehicle!

Anyway...Fuel for Thought

I new you'd come up with something like that! LOL
Is that old saying really true? That a man is making up for his shortcomings by driving a big ass truck?

That kind of brings up an interesting point. What does it say about a woman who buys and drives one of these monsters on the road?

Anyone wanna bite on that?

One word describes 99% of hummer drivers; Yuppie.

Same goes for vehicles like the Escalade and the BMW & Mercedes SUV's.

Ever notice that most of the people that drive BMW cars, especially the mid to top of the line ones are usually driven by 25-30 year old guys and NEVER use their turn signals.

Given the opportunity, I'd rather one of those kind of drivers run into the ditch that pull a stupid stunt and cut me off!

The H2 and H3's are not Hummers, they are soccer mom vehicles! The problem is most women(Who the h2s and h3's are targeted to) are way too smart to buy one of those over priced POS!

This last year, The Thermals turned down a cool $50k, just to make sure that they were never associated this brand:

"AP - PORTLAND, Ore. - A Portland rock band says it turned down an offer for the right to use their song in a commercial for the Hummer. The Thermals say they were offered $50,000 for the right to use their song "It's Trivia" in a commercial for the sport utility vehicle. But lead singer Hutch Harris says the answer was easy - NO.

GM later offered another band $180,000, but Trans Am of Washington, D.C., also said no. Lyle Hysen of Bank Robber Music, a licensing group that pitches songs to film and TV production companies, says the Hummer is a tough sell.

Some bands tell him they'll do almost anything for money - except a Hummer commercial."

My Post Office has a small parking lot. It can really get bad at times with BIG RIG's. Long 4x4's with those huge trailor hitch's. Since the inside of the Post Office is also very small, you can size up the people waiting in line. You also have a eye view of half the parking lot through a window. I like to play the game: Match The Midgets with Their Abominable Monstrosities! Most of the time I make a match.

On the same note it ain't to hard to match the 400 pounder with the GEO that leans on the left side! And you can hear Jr. fast and furious three blocks before and after he arrives and leaves....just look for the spikey hair or backwards hat! 9 out of 10 it will have a shitty plastic body kit not painted and a ten foot tall spoiler on the deck lid!

These guys in their monstrosities sometimes piss me off to no end. Are they so stupid that they don't understand that a vehicle that high off of the ground makes the headlights shine right in the back window of most normal vehicles? I am thankful when this happens that I have and auto-dimming rear-view mirror and remote control side view mirrors. I aim those suckers slightly up and straight back. Tends to make them back off or change lanes! The ones with those new 33% brighter sylvania bulbs are the worst! Get a clue dumb ass.....quit blinding people!

Oh...these same bright individuals...you wonder why they seem to have the need to go faster than everyone else? Cause the dumb asses when they put on the taller tires and wheels neglected to consider that if the speedometer is driven off of the transmission tailshaft as most trucks are that the speedometer will now read slow. It will read about 60 when they are going 70. If you change the tire diameter you need to calibrate your speedometer "DUDE"! DUHHHH

This can also work to your advantage if you have young drivers. Put on slightly smaller than stock tires and SHAZAM....their speedometer will read 75 but they will actually only be going 65! Fewer tickets.

The only driving thing that drives me batty ( Other than Washington drivers using the left lane like Oregon drivers use the right lane ) is during drives to the coast or Sunriver, there is much one land driving. So you get behnid someone who is deciding to go slower. No problem. But when the passing lane appears, THEN they go faster?

People, if this is you, stop doing that.

You know it is funny you mention that...Washington driver here and proud of it. I find that by just observing traffic flows....I have had years to do this....that if you sneak into the right lane it goes faster in places than the left lane. This because everyone has the fast lane mentallity. DUHH....just open your eyes and practice forward driving...The right lane is moving twice as fast up ahead but damn-nit i'm gonna get in the fast_slow lane!!!!!

Great example. I-5 north non-car pool drive during rush hour. Stay in center lane until passing lombard then get into the right lane until you get close to the interstate avenue/delta park on-ramp then dive into the center lane again and finally the left lane to cross the bridge. Works for me......hell I even play leap-frop sometimes and take the Portland Blvd off-ramp and cross over and get right back on the freeway again....If you catch the lights right it could save you a whole 60 seconds....LOL I just hate sitting still....like to be moving if only for the illusion of it!

I actually don't think that it's Washington drivers fault. Washington has trained their drivers to exit from the left lane MUCH more often than I have seen exits on the left side in Oregon.

Still though - please move. There aren't many, if any, exits from the left in Oregon. Drive that way in Washington all you need to. Makes sense up there.

Multnomah Falls Dude....left lane exit right off of I-84!
I can drive either state. Kind of unusual but I think of myself as a heads up driver. I am always looking and checking where cars are around me and also what is up ahead 15 to 20 cars down the road. I swear most young drivers can only see what is going on one car down the road. They will pass someone like a maniac only to get stuck behind someone else in the lane they jump into! Me...I can see it coming so I just pick the lane that will be open and just breeze past them. You look into there car and they are pounding the strg wheel of tailgating like crazy....makes me crack up every time.

BTW.....I don't cause a pile up of cars behind me like Oregon drivers do and I signal and move to the correct lane to exit so put that in your tailpipe and smoke it! HA Oh wait...you already high though right? LOL

I don't think it matters if you are in Washington or Oregon. People in both states have no clue what "Keep Right Except to Pass" means.

I like I-25 in Colorado. Even thru Downtown Denver, the speed limit is 65 MPH and just a few miles south of Denver the speed limit jumps to 75 MPH with signs that say "Minimum Speed in Left Lane 55 MPH"

Growing up in the Midwest, I was always taught;
Right lane was for entering and exiting, center lane was for thru traffic and left lane was for passing. Get in the left lane, go around the slower vehicle then get back in the center.

AND USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS!!!

Yep, both states have their share of left lane hogs. But the difference is Washington's freeways are more crowded and thus there are more people in the left lane. It's simple physics. Washington drivers also tend to drive in "packs", if everyone is going 70 in a 60 it is impossible to enforce. It's those who insist on going 80 that cause the problems.

If you want driving excitement, try I-5 during any daytime hour through downtown Seattle under the convention center. Southbound especially is a mangled mess of confusing signs, "exit only" lanes that aren't really, and constant lane changes at 65 MPH. I'm surprised there are not more accidents there. Divine intervention I guess!

"I'm surprised there are not more accidents there."

Washington has more spectacular California-style wrecks to rubberneck at. In Oregon, we get boring rearenders.

Oregon has slowly redesigned/improved freeways based on the laws of physics (for one, no left side freeway exits) while Seattle's land lay prevents practical solutions.

Redford - going 80 in packs though is nice! Yes, I do have a lead foot ... but having lived in Seattle and here, the main difference is that while Seattle traffic is WORLDS worse, when it isn't bottlenecked it's one giant pack doing 75-80 mph. Here (and I mean BOTH sides of the river) it's people in the left lane doing 45 in a 55. Unacceptable, now get the %#(&*^#&* out of my way.

It would be nice if they posted MINIMUM speed limits here like they do in the midwest. Driving back a couple of years back, I noticed them mostly in Minnesota ... speed limit 75, minimum speed was 60 I believe. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be driving. Plain and simple.

Here a factoid for ya.

In Oregon merging traffic has the right of way so get out of there way.

in Washington thru traffic has the right of way so merge accordingly.

A problem arrises when an Oregonian is merging and just assumes thru traffic will let them in but the Washington thru traffic driver will drive over the top of them. Drivers need to use on-ramps as they were intended and accelerate to freeway speed prior to merging. I get so upset with idiots that meander out to the end of the merge lane going 45 and try to get on the freeway! It's times like those where I wish I was driving a sherman tank and just roll over the top of them! HA
