I stumbled onto something while researching the new Mount Angel station: KCCS is now KPJC, which stands for Paris Junior College and the format is Jazz. They went to these call letters on February 18. The funny thing is that on December 6, they became KBDY. Apparently, it's still owned by KCCS Inc. This station has been KCCS and religious as long as I can remember. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Oh yes, has anyone ever heard of Paris Junior College?

1220 had been KCCS since around 1971. Before that, it signed on the air December 12, 1961 as KAPT.

It must have been a misprint. It looks like I wasn't paying attention before 1971.

Not even people in the business in Salem knew about this. This is not a station that people watch.

Or listen to evidently.

Last year KCCS moved into the KYKN building. KCCS and KYKN went under the same management.

After working at KCCS for 30 years and starting a radio career there(away for 5 years now), I can say a few things about recent goings on a the station...but lets just say that Don Wyant, a local businessman who purchased the station a few years ago from long time owner Christian Center Church has had many challenges and is still in major learning curve in broadcasting. Says he's learning lots...the station has much potential...a strong signal in the market. As for the calls...Don changed his mind with KBDY and they were never used on air and KPJC has no connection with Paris Junior College. Since last summer Don has taken back the station from KYKN (LMA) and moved it to his property management offices off Lancaster Drive NE.

Just saw on Radio-locator.com the supposed connection between Paris Junior College as it is listed there with KPJC Salem,Or and with Texas phone contacts...weird! Think they got some data mixed up. No jazz on the station now...

Who had the KPJC calls first...from a Texas College web site...

KPJC (1250 AM) is a 500 watt college station playing adult contemporary and soft jazz. We are the campus radio station of Paris Junior College, Paris, Texas. Our format is NAC from Jones Broadcasting & CNN from Westwood One. We are a commercial station with revenue going to student scholarships and operation of station. The best students are on the air with local announcements and college/high school play-by-play

I thought it kind of strange. Whoever heard of a junior college out here? "All I know is what I read in the papers".

KBDY and KBZY in the same town wouldn't have been a good idea.

A couple of months ago, the people (person?) at the new 1220 KPJC contacted us at KKJC-LP here in McMinnville. Apparently they wanted to use the KKJC calls and wondered if we were still on the air.

(Unfortunately, due to myself having to work a full time job away from the station, a live body is not on the air from the "Mighty KKJC Broadcast Centre", but Mr. Mation--'Otto Mation' is!)

So what do we know about the new Mt. Angel station? Format? ETA? I'm curious....

Maybe programming to Portland during the day and to Salem at night???

I think Mr. Eaton was referring to the new station that is to be on at AM1130 from Mt. Angel.

(BTW, I'm sure going to miss being able to hear CKWX at night when that new station signs on.)

The only way you won't be able to hear CKWX is if you live in Mount Angel or southwest of it.

Unfortunately I live directly in the path of the new 1130's nighttime pattern.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get away from a 20th century mentallity and stream it off of News 1130's website.

When will the The Mighty 1130 sign on from Mt Angel? Boy,all the talk about the death of radio and even new AMs are signing on?

They have 3 years to build.
