This Sunday, Faux News will premier:
"The 1/2 Hour News Hour"
This supposed to be the Conservative answer to "The Daily Show".

Judging from these clips, I don't think Jon Stewart has anything to worry about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjIfaMwIFxU
(pay particular attention to the laugh track on this one)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WCNc7JZ24k&NR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3DA5lN1iwI&NR

This is so bad, even the Looney Right over at FreeRepublic thinks that the writers must be Liberals deliberately making Conservatives look stupid.

The second link, the opening of the show, is pretty funny.

OK if you say so.

I tried to watch it objectivly, but I admit, seeing Limbaugh & Mr. Coulter had me choking back the bile in the back of my throat.

I rarely make predictions. But I am smelling this venture being a legendary punchline for a LONG time. I think it will be New Coke, Ishtar and Arrested Development's "The Cornballer" all wrapped into one.

This is going to be toxic, insulting to every sense and deeply embarrassing. I'm not marginalizing it. That's too subtle. I'm saying that I judge people who watch it and prefer it to the other shows it's trying to get a pie-slice from.

I also place odds on it becoming such a laughing-stock, that they will pull the old " We MEANT for it to be bad! Yes, the content, production value, jokes, laugh track, over the top subtlety, lack of craft, poor costumes, pasty actors, off-putting chyrons " trick.

And you know what? People will believe it and try and convince others that it was all done on purpose. Like it's some sophisticated subversive infiltration from the right. And those poeple will look very stupid for saying it.

Plus, test marketing a new product by leaking it to youtube shows that you already have some concerns.

I do believe the creator of this show is also the creator of 24.

I can't predict what their ratings will look like, but at least there's now a semblance of balance to counter the left-leaning '60 Minutes' every Sunday night.

I wish them well.

This is some of the more bigoted inflammatory crap I have seen on a major network, oh, since the last time I watched feral puppy news. Ironically, nobody is going to remember this as funny, because the Colbert Report is iconic. Too late Fox. This will just be used to make a great deal of your best buddies unelectable and marginalized forever. For that, I ought to thank you. Now run along in your jackboots.

"Twenty-four" is agitprop drivel, so that makes sense. Keifer, you are a whore, a sniveling crawling, "if I were alive then I'd beat a path to the HUAC" piece of garbage. The least talented wrap themselves in a flag, so you too can be governor of California someday. *shudder* Perhaps even the President. *double shudder* Please, find a bottle, find a couch and curl up in our proud colors. Sleep little one, sleep.

Why is there a comedy show on a news network?

Why are they ripping of the entire format, segments, etc. from other much more successful shows?

Why the obvious laugh track?

Who conceived of this show, and what about it did they think was funny?

Why when I watch this do I feel like I'm watching the Daily Show and/or SNL in Bizzaro World?

Oh I don't know I did find some of it humorous. I love irreverence so I was not offended. But thankfully I don't have cable TV so it's just another show I won't miss.

Herb said - " I can't predict what their ratings will look like, but at least there's now a semblance of balance to counter the left-leaning '60 Minutes' every Sunday night."

Really? You think that's the demo they are going after, eh? The right feels left out by having 60 Minutes...and this new show fills that void for the right-leaning people who need the kind of information 60 Minutes provides.

I know you have been feeling painted into a corner lately and feel the need to defend yourself and your party - but if you honestly believe that this is what the right has been asking for - well - your party is more out of touch than I could ever have accused it of being.

I think it's dollars number one.

Stewart and Colbert are wiping the floor with their excellent shows.

This show is aimed at all those providing material! They need a show too, so here it is.

It's doomed though, unless they do something besides bash on others. Hate humor gets kind of old. (And I'm using hate as in 'hating on...', hammering on, etc...)

They need to incorporate the news and ditch the forced laugh track.

Nice lift of "The Daily Show" production values though. Stewart should be proud.

We just cancelled Dish Network......don't miss it. Kid's are getting more homework time and don't seem to really miss it either. Not much on Free air to watch so they occupy themselves with reading and doing other activities! I miss my Sci-Fi though.....main channel I watched...gotta have my Battlestar and Stargates! But I can settle for just getting episode 3.0 on DVD when it comes out shortly and watch it when I can on my time frame!

The Obama piece is stupid - I can't imagine how anyone would really find that funny. The Rush Limbaugh intro actually is quite amusing (not Ann Coulter though) - but not enough to carry a show he's not going to be on.

But it seems as though the show's producers missed the point of "The Daily Show." They make fun of everyone, even though people think they have a left-leaning bias. Yet Democratic leaders as mocked and ridiculed as much as everyone else.

The Fox show seems to be a right-leaning version of what they mistakenly THINK "The Daily Show" is, not what it really is.

Colbert woke a batch of them up last year, maybe word will get around.

It just occured to me, they would have a tough time doing what "The Daily Show" really is. The GOP currently provides much of the material!

Not that the Dems are perfect, clearly they are not.

But, at the current time, the material balance is not in their favor.

The Dems also provide a lot of material for "The Daily Show." It would be much less funny without it.

Now, a funny Fox News comedy show would be one that actually pokes fun at Republicans! It's possible to do this in a respectful way. But I sense the Fox Audience takes their politics way too seriously and would have trouble laughing at jokes about Republicans, unlike the way many of us laugh at Jon Stewart poking fun at Democrats.

That is a HUGE difference to me too. I've always maintained that The Republican party is proud to a fault. There are too many sacred subjects for them to even laugh about. They seem to view it as moral decay if you are not quiet and humbled before their beliefs. There are too many taboos. Which leads to repression. Which leads to denial. Which leads to, well, being Republican.

All their outlets are secretive and sinister once they finally find some way to express it. Then they feel shame for some of those feelings being perfectly natural. Man, it's gotta be taxing on the psyche.

Now, go ahead and call that an over-greneralization - because it is. But there is a core in there somewhere that rings true.

I'll take back part of my comment.

Andrew is right on, IMHO.

There is more than enough material period, they've just gotta be willing to actually be funny without pandering.

Doubt that will happen though. Too deep in the culture of FOX right now.
