Victoria is a marvelous host.

She makes even standard Radio talk fare interesting.

KPAM was lucky to snag her. With her looks and intelligence, she could easily do major market TV. She's actually a little too smart for many on TV, other than maybe Fox. Let's keep her our secret on Radio.

"With her looks"

Oh, gimme a break...

And is anybody else sick of "Naked Guy"? He's on the same par as Anna Nicole Smith, who's dead, in case you hadn't heard. I hate TV news during sweeps months.

Oregon: recently Nationally Famous for The Kim family "tragedy", Mt Hood climbing retards, and now the Naked Guy.

"With her looks"

"Oh, gimme a break..."

How mean-spirited.

What's the problem here? Compliments aren't allowed, unless it's a democrat being praised? Or are we simply trashing and bashing here?

62kgw: We need more of the people you listed above. It will scare families from moving here.

What about all the Terrorist cells that call Oregon home? Or all the Meth neighborhoods? We need to warn people if you come to live here, not use medal for anything because it will be stolen for drug money.

There are probably several names to add to this list. What about Dr Lendon Smith? He had his own network TV show, a syndicated radio program and showed up on the Tonight Show frequently. Sally Struthers, Lindsay Wagner, Jane Powell, Johnny Ray, Mark Lindsay! What about the girl who married Bruce Springsteen?

Ann Curry? I didn't know that. I think she would've been a much better choice than Katie Couric (barf) for evening news.

Add Ken Kesey, and Steve Miller.

Word to Daveyboy1: Funny how that gruesome stuff leaves a lasting impression for 40+ years...it's like how you can't remember anything you learned in school, but you know all the lyrics to "American Pie" and a creepy murderer's full name...

Back in the early 1960's there was a horrific Oregon murder for its time. A mother threw her two children into the Crooked River Canyon, killing them. Can't remember if this was off the old Crooked River Bridge. The mother did this so the children would be out of the way. At the time she was having affair with another woman.

Craig, that sounds horrific. Only a Bill O'Reilly thread could inspire such talk about infanticide. :0)

62, Diane Downs is the name of the woman who tried to kill her three children in 1983. She shot and murdered one daughter and seriously wounded another daughter, as well as her son. While he was with KYXI/KGON, I believe Tim Underwood won an AP award for an interview that he did with Downs, right before her infamous escape and recapture in 1987.

Harv, for starters, Chuck Palahniuk has written many popular books including the best seller, Fight Club.

Craig, you're remembering the horrific homicides of two children in 1961 by Jeannace June Freeman and Gertrude Nunez. They were Nunez' young boy and girl. Both had been brutally abused sexually and thrown off the Crooked River Bridge. I saw the autopsy photos when I was covering Freeman's parole hearings 20 years ago. Describing what they did to those kids I just can't describe in a forum such as this. Freeman convinced her lover, Nunez, that her kids must die because they were in the way of their relationship.

This has nothing to do with Victoria Taft, who is a Rose Festival Princess and a great broadcaster, but I thought I'd give you a BTW thang on Freeman. The OSP investigators and Jefferson County prosecutor all thought the death penalty should have been carried out promptly.

I've never heard anyone "qualify" Ginger Rogers before! She's probably the 2nd best known dancer in the world but I don't think she's from here. If we're just counting people who have lived in Oregon, I believe Stella Stevens has a ranch in the state and Clark Gable once worked for the Oregonian. Paul Revere & the Raiders basically broke nationally from here and they were one of the biggest American rock bands of the '60s!

Brooks: Yes! I remember the parole hearing on the news. The story was told to me by my mother & father when we would cross the Crooked River Bridge on camping trips. At the time I was 6 years old, that's why I can't remember very much.

If Victoria is reading this I'm sure she knows on pdxradio we get carried away on other topics at times. Hey she's got her name on the board heading! Publicity is good.

Semoochie,
You list Lindsay Wagner (David Douglas Alum) but forget Sam Elliott who graduated from DD before she did, plus 4 of the original 5 Kingsmen who also graduated from DD the same year as Sam. Lindsay was 4 or 5 years after them.

Walter Brennan owned a ranch out of Joseph in Wallowa County. Actually lived there, also.

We could go on and on listing people from Oregon and we'd still miss some. Who you remember depends on how old you are and where you were, also. We think mostly of entertainers and athletes but as others mentioned, there have been others, very notable, also. From medical, scientific, literary, arts, ....etc.

Brooks, you are one of my favorite broadcast journalists. Thanks for the scoop on Craig's story.

To toss out a few more, I believe songwriter, Tim Hardin, and modern aircraft pioneer, Burt Rutan, are among the native sons. On the "lived here" cusp, rock legend John Fogerty found himself at home in Troy, Oregon, and not long after, did this interview with Rolling Stone: http://www.cameroncrowe.com/eyes_ears/articles/crowe_fogerty.html

Great stuff from everyone on this tangent!

Article in Sunday Oregonian Metro section about Walter Brennan's grandson living in Wallowa County and that Walter Brennan bought his ranch near Joseph in 1940 and was there between film roles until he died in 1974. He built a Motel, movie theater and variety store in Joseph.
