On a side note: It's gonna be a kick ass election cycle! Just look at it already! Now is the time to encourage that political junkie in all of us. Lots to see and it's never dull, plus things are gonna happen. Don't know if they will be good things, but they are sure going to be interesting things.

Let's see, a quick scan of columns she has filed recently reveals that she gave Biden a life ring when he was beyond an idiot talking about Obama and fawns over Hillary in Iowa. Only a desperate fool like Dowd would waste Barak Obama's time on questions of heaters and Speedos, unless she is nervous about him actually winning. Nervous around him? Gotta talk about him half naked? Hmmm... *Jerry Lewis voice* "Hey lady, um lady? Um, did you uuuh tink of axing the Senator about anything, um... politicical? Um, lady?" Moron Dowd. In addition to her Kenyan-American beefcake obsession, she must have a big crush on Hillary or something. No, let me prove my love to you. I will destroy the Democrats current best chance of winning my sweet. It will all work out for you in the long run for you, buttercup. Just in time for Valentine's Day. Sorry Mo, Bill is taking Hil to a spa and getting a sound whipping from her later. She's married, dummy. On the other hand, it is the Drudge Report and they had a convincing piece about a flat earth. Perhaps it is too early to assume that cupid has struck her blind. Either way, she is an idiot, and, apparently, really hard up. Who wants to buy her a Valentine's drink? *shudder*

I gotta say though, one poor column churner in the Big Apple does nothing to devour this candidate. It has only further eroded her credibility as an already marginal writer. I remember when Bob Woodward mattered too. It was when he was hungry and a journalist. Now he is neither. Perhaps it was Bernstein all along who did all the work. Maybe we will find out that he was the Art Garfunkel of Watergate. So, in my estimation, this topic is another dead end. I hate to look for the cheese when there is no maze.

To be fair Herb, the Demos were still the official racist party until Strom Thurmond died. We must give credit where credit is due. The GOP has done quite nicely in his stead and have learned how to be subtle, cunning and compartmental when it comes to minorities. I guess that comes from having old white money drive the bus, no matter which route it takes.

Herb, let's leave the gloves on or I will have to point out that the Emancipation Proclamation -- a document your party has ridden for a century and a half -- sat in Lincoln's desk for quite a while. It still looks like he played Hamlet when lives were at stake. I was trying to inject a little tombstone humor into the discussion by pointing out that both sides have skeletons, but if you want rattling bones, I will be glad to excavate more.

Glad you pointed out the Republican Mr. Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. He freed the slaves. In the process, many Americans gave their lives for freedom of black people. Mr. Gore's father voted AGAINST the civil rights act. Herb

Lincoln was far less of a bleeding heart than you might imagine, so make it pretty if you want, but that war, like most wars, was simply economic. Remember, slaves were property. They were as big an issue in the debate as railroad service and considered in the exactly the same context. We are in the 21st century now. The fact that some of those divisions still exist is evidence that your party, in fact all political parties since the 1860s, have failed to complete the task of making America free. Ironically, Lincoln could have told the crowds that we would walk on the moon and the job would have been completed by his successors.

"Mr. Lincoln could have taken the easy way out. He didn't." True. He was joined by an entire country who could not take the easy way out. I admire Lincoln a great deal, but I am unwilling to ignore his faults. The beauty of history is that it can be learned from, and potentially, not repeated. The country went to war. The Civil War is over. The class war is not, and like it or not, race is part of it. When it is over, our leaders will all get credit or blame in historical context. Freedom, like a crop, must be cultivated more and more by each generation or it simply goes back to the environment that existed before the seeds were sown.

To be fair to Herb, and Deane, the Democratic Party scored exactly the same way on the test, for exactly the same reasons. This is why all of us, okay, most of us, want change. I think. Weigh in here. I know, I just gave everyone a D minus and now I want opinions. Is there evidence that the people in our current government, virtually all of them, do not deserve such low marks?
