I have it, from a very reliable source, that a mexican group is taking over KFIR. Has anyone heard anything? Personally, I dunno how this would fly. Seing that The communuty of license is Sweet Home, where's theres not a big hispanic population.

White people have been taking over the US for hundreds of years. Now it's time for Hispanics to have their chance. They can turn every AM station to Spanish, and it won't bother me one bit.

oldbroadcaster: That's saying a bit much, don't you think? I guess I'm kind of a throw-back in this regard, but I still really believe in AM radio. 970 & 1190 both get more play in my house than any station on the FM band...

The last time I talked with Bob Ratter he said someone was looking at the station...I understand they are going 10K soon, this would blast a signal thru the valley.

If you're talking about 910, they had a construction permit in the late 90s but couldn't get local approval. That's the last I heard.

720 KFIR has a CP to go 10Kw daytime. They will still have the same 184 watts nighttime.

Hispanic. It DOESN'T have to be a daytimer, though. The Ratters just haven't kept up with technology- at all. Personally, I think all broadcast operations should have to broadcast 24 hours a day. If there's a local emergency in the middle of the night, the stations not there to serve the community of license.

Most daytimers now can broadcast at night. Unfortunately most are under 50 watts. 184 nighttime watts is probably enough to cover Sweet Home.

KFIR's current owner has chosen not to broadcast any signal at night. The new owner will certainly use the 184 watts, but that won't provide any nighttime coverge for Eugene or Salem.

Hi Tim, You are right, the station is there to provide coverage 24 hours a day, but as you and I both know stations like KXPC are on 24 hours a day but no live coverage at all...24 hours a day. How ya doin my friend?

hey H- just sent you an email. Personally, I believe that every station should have to have a live body in the station a certain number of hours a day. If there is a major crisis going on, and your VT'd guy is talking about American Idol- you lose credibility, and the station is NOT serving it's created purpose to serve the community. In this age of instant wireless communication, radio stations need to step it up to remain relevant.
