How do you know Anna Nicole's death isn't related to the astronaut story? Hmm...

The train will not arrive at the station anymore. She derailed and crashed.

If only Brittney and Paris would leave us.....then we can hold a triple Who the F cares party!

Sad for the people she leaves behind but not for her personally! A true trainwreck that finally happened!

Skeptical, I agree. This will become another diversion from the real news for days and perhaps weeks. I predict this story will get more airtime than Iraq in the next week. Says a lot about our society.

It says more about whom the media targets than about society.

Hey, the public is easily distracted by bright, shiny things dangled in their line of sight. The best thing that could happen to this story is that it was the result of a congenital heart condition, she dies prematurely end of story. Her drug use and abuse was well known before this tragic incident, so no news there.

Andy, society for the most part, determines how media targets. If we didn't watch, they wouldn't target it the way they do. But I will accept that society and the media are both responsible for what we are shown on a daily basis.

BTW, I've had CNN on for the past 20 minutes and this is the only story mentioned. I'm part of the problem, I guess...but more a media junkie than truely interested.

"Andy, society for the most part, determines how media targets."

I think you mean what not "how" but in either case it's a limited statement. The media operates on LCD (lowest common denominator, not liquid crystal display), not on quality or intelligence. If porn was legal, we'd see every network showing nothing but. For every decent media outlet, there are probably 50 that make no great social contribution. Since the spread of broadband, the traditional broadcast media is really losing more ground then when cable TV first brought them a reduced market share surprise.

But you're right, if no one watched they would change what they show.

Now exactly 47 minutes of all-Anna on CNN. 30 seconds of other headlines, and back to all-Anna next! And a special hour of all-Anna coming up with Larry King Live!!!

Also learned that websites of all types have had huge hits on Anna. Maybe society is saying, "we want this!" Sad, but reality.

I actually liked her. She sincerely loved an old man and gave him the best send-off any of us could dream of in our declining years. She lost her son in a very public and awful way. A curvy babe in the woods who died trying to please everyone is sad, tragic and ironic, but not worth all the coverage. Ah, glorious sensationalism.

My bet? Accidental Heroin/methadone OD.

It's sad that she leaves that 5-month old baby motherless. And in a major money/custody battle.

It's sick that it's the top story...

I'm betting when this story is revealed:

Anna and her Son were deeply in love with each other. They had sex. She wouldn't abort their baby. He didn't want the baby. He didn't want the press after him when this was to be revealed, so he kills himself. Anna loved him so much that she didn't want to live after this. She killed herself a week before the DNA of the baby comes out.

Craig, that's a bizarre theory, but with this women, it could certainly be a possibility. The fact she doesn't want a paternity test lends some fuel to the fire.

Surely, at this point, they will have to have a paternity test since the real father has a right to raise the child after her death.

Chilling possibilities.

I've also got a theory on why they didn't find that lost kid at Crater Lake. When the snow melts, I'm betting the kid WON'T be found. That's as far as I'll post on my theory here.

Craig, are these incidents related?

Seriously, I think the poor kid either fell into the lake, or it was foul play by the father. Did they ever find (the body of) that little boy who got lost a few years earlier while getting a Christmas tree? I cringed when my sister said they were going out to cut their own tree this year...thoughts of him and the (clueless) Kim family.

P.S. I think your theory on ANS makes perfect sense!

Craig, I did a quick google search on your theory and yes, just google "Anna Nicole Smith incest" and you will see many similar theories. (Caution: this search will also bring up porn sites) Seems a bit far-fetched to me, but then again, nothing surprises me today.

I was at home when I first heard about her dying, and I told Mum, "Ahh jeez, now we gotta listen to THIS for the next ten years!!"

Pathetic that the news reporters don't really seem to be able to report legitimate NEWS any more (like, how the nation is destabilising--no comment please, Herb--or how gas prices are skyrocketing out of control, or how east-coast transportation is coming to a halt because of nasty waether! Nope, just who Brittney is sleeping with this week, or what Puff Daddy's latest nickname-of-the-moment is, or who got busted for smoking Pot and how he'll only get off with an apology, sometimes not even that. Shameful.)

All I have to say to celebrity gossip being passed off somehow as "news" is: *ascending tone* WhhoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOO*CARES*??

I guess, if it gets really irritating (which I find it safe to say it already has, and it's only been a week) there's always a bevy of commercial and announcement free music services I can listen to...........

Well, Moto...like it or not, many seem to care or why would CNN and Fox, etc. keep doing this? People are watching. Back to the argument, who's fault is this? The news outlets for pushing, or the viewer for consuming?

(I write this with Larry King in the background back on Anna tonight (2/15), now one week after her death.)

Here is probably the only way something decent will ever make the news.

Man saves child from being hit by the number 10 bus today on Market street. Moments late that same man gets ran over by a drunk driver on Clay!

Never just a good story.....gotta have bad with it!

New at eleven....

Terrible bad news from Florida as a 747 crashes in the everglades.....good news however as alligators make cleanup and recovery less work!

And then when they have good news with a bad story, the good news is terrible news!
