Does Portland Really Need a new FM? Copies of the application are available for public inspection in the West Linn Public Library whose address is 1595 Burns Street, during regular service hours. (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, weekdays)and in KWLZ's public inspection file which is located at 274 SW 4th Street, Madras, Oregon.

KWLZ to West Linn on 96.3, KNRQ to Tualatin on 97.9 and KTIL to Government Camp on 94.3. See "Towers & Such". You can also view any application on line at the FCC site.

I was under the impression that when Salem moved 93.1 KTRO here that the FM spectrum in Portland was full and there wasn't any more room in the market for new FM signals. I'm no engineer, but what are the implications? Other stations having to change frequencies to accommodate, etc...

KWLZ will knock off the air several LPFM stations around PDX, a satellator, and possibly the KRKT Salem translator...if it's approved.

So would Cumulus be able to move KNRQ to a different spot on the dial ? Or just loose out all together ?

KNRQ applied to move to Tualatin. If approved, they will turn off the station in Eugene and move it to the Skyline tower. This will give Tualatin a first local service and 1 less in Eugene. When KUPL moved back to 98.7, it opened up a space on 97.9 that could be filled if doing so didn't create interference to other stations.

Odd strategy since Cummulus doesn't have any other Portland stations... (like Portland needs another station!)

I'm sure they're setting it up to sell.

Cumulus would most likely move "NRQ" to another Eugene signal, such as 102.3 or 95.3.

If the move were to happen tomorrow you'd be right, but this may be years away, so it's probably too soon to speculate which Cumulus format gets axed or moved.

So we can we see 96.3 and 97.9 sign on in Portland?

Also, can 96.3 and 97.9 raise their power at least Class C-2?

Tualatin desparately needs a live and local FM to serve it's growing market of SUV driving Moms! Hopefully it will reach into Bull Mountain as well. All James Blunt, all the time!

KNRQ had to drop back to Class A status to avoid a mutually exclusive application with KACI-FM The Dalles. The latter now owns a construction permit and the former is tied up in Canadian clearance issues. I suspect some kind of arrangement will be made between KNRQ and KACI to allow a higher class license in Tualatin, possibly much higher if 97.7 is abandoned.
