Just got this info today from Everett Helm @OPB: With great sadness, I report the passing on Tuesday, January 30th, of Mike Tondreau, W7BBR, VP of Engineering at Oregon Public Broadcasting. Mike was in a battle with cancer the last few months. Mike was well known and respected throughout the Broadcast community both locally and nationwide through his activities with PBS. A memorial service is planned, however arrangements are pending. More details when available. We will miss him. Mike was at KOAP in 1967 when I started there.... 40 years ago. A great guy.

Very sad to hear about this. Mike Tondreau was a Pioneer in Oregon HDTV development. As OPB's V.P. of Engineering. He launched Experimental KAXC channel 35 from Portland's west hills, becoming the first TV station in Oregon and one of the first on the west coast to transmit an HDTV picture.
