Herb said: "Bill Moyers is a radical leftist."

Herb, I don't know what that means, but that doesn't matter. Did you watch any of the video? It is quite educational and pretty well summarizes the Iran/Contra affair. I think it is interesting since I did not pay attention to these things when they happened. It shows that the Reagan administration did pretty much what they pleased and didn't follow the Constitution. This reminds me of the Bush administration.

Herb I gotta give you credit for keeping your position very clear.

Jesus was considered the same thing in his day too.

I don't know if they had leftists and rightists (?) back in Jesus' time, but he was considered a radical.

That’s why they murdered him.

From Wikipedia:

Moyers has been the subject of accusations of liberal bias from some quarters. In 2005 former Corporation for Public Broadcasting chairman Kenneth Tomlinson commissioned a study of the show NOW with Bill Moyers. The study supported what Tomlinson characterized as "the image of the left-wing bias of NOW"[15]. Moyers responded to these accusations in a speech given to the National Conference for Media Reform, pointing out that he had repeatedly invited Tomlinson to debate him on the subject, and had repeatedly been ignored [16]. Tomlinson subsequently resigned on 4 November 2005 after a CPB inquiry found improprieties in the commissioning of the study. Investigators at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting said on 15 November 2005 "that they had uncovered evidence that (Tomlinson) had repeatedly broken federal law and the organization's own regulations in a campaign to combat what he saw as liberal bias."

Moyers' frequent criticism of conservative policy has led conservative commentators like Brent Bozell to label him a liberal commentator rather than an objective journalist[17].

Moyers has drawn further allegations of bias in his role as president of the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, [18]. In 2003 the center gave money to a variety of establishments which have been described as "left leaning," such as the Christian evangelical magazine Sojourners ($500,000), Salon.com ($277,785) and The Nation magazine ($115,000)[19]. After reviewing these donations David Horowitz's conservative Discover the Network website has asserted that "Bill Moyers has dropped any pretense of objectivity". He has also been involved with the group Take Back America, an organization that seeks to help elect liberal political candidates.

October 2006, Dr E. Calvin Beisner, whom Moyers interviewed for Is God Green, wrote that Moyers had told him that he "intended for the documentary to influence the November elections to bring control of Congress back to the Democrats". [20] Moyers denies the claim [21], but Beisner stands by it [22].

Ok, so you are claiming his has bias.

We all have bias.

How does that impact the information presented above?

The video above is advocacy. That does not make it untrue, it simply presents some information that may well impact the decision making process.

Does this mean we should not consider the information? Does his bias make him "bad" somehow, evil, what?

The guy's about as left as they get.

Except, unlike commentators Rush and Hannity, Moyers is considered a 'journalist.'

Big difference.

Rush identifies himself as an "Entertainer" at least when it's concenient to do so.

Don't have a clue what Hannity call himself.

But,
Brit Hume, Chris Wallace, Neil Cavuto and Heraldo Rivera are all generally considered Journalists, and they are certainly not without bias.

Dan Rather and Bill Moyers both gained respect as journalists under fire. Like so many in the so-called "liberal media," they saw far too much in their careers and it led them to draw a few personal conclusions about right and wrong.

Of course, Edward R. Murrow was a "liberal" too. He stood on rooftops during the Blitz, rode along on bombing missions and reported what he saw fact by fact. Today, his credentials would be questioned in the same way that they were in the McCarthy era.

Sean Hannity, David Brooks, Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Paul Gigot, Brit Hume, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh might seem pretty tough, but they will only fight for a place in line at the donut table or the pharmacy. All together, these folks have not given the American people a single day of military service.

As one of my favorite songwriters, John Prine, once said, "Your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore." By the way, he had a tour overseas serving our nation too.

To get to the original topic, I thought it was an insightful report.

As did I.

Again, this is exactly why these kinds of labels don't do anything but devalue discussion.

We all have bias. It's up to us to consider all the information we consume and come to our own conclusions. I sure would like to see some solid information that counters what is in this report, rather than just marginalize it by saying this guy fits into one of the bad label catagories...

Littlesongs, John Prine is one of my favorites too. Don't forget about Sam Stone.

http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/flagdecal.mp3

While digesting Reader’s Digest
In the back of a dirty book store
A plastic flag with gum on the back
Fell out on the floor.
Well,I picked it up and ran outside
And slapped it on my windowshield.
And If I could see ol’ Betsy Ross
I’d tell her how good I feel.

(Chorus:-)
But, you flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven anymore.
They’re already overcrowded
From your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like Killin’
No matter what the reasons for.
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore.

Well,I went to the Bank this morning
And the cashier said to me
If you join the Christmas Club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free.
I didn’t mess a round a bit
I took him up on what he said
And stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife’s forehead.

(Chorus:-)
But, you flag decal won’t get you
Into Heaven anymore.
They’re already overcrowded
From your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like Killin’
No matter what the reasons for.
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore.

Well,I got my windshield so filled with flags I couldn’t see
So I ran my car upside a curb and right into a tree
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead,
And I’ll never understand
Why the man,
Standing in the Pearly Gates said…

(Chorus:-)
But your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore,
We’re already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like killin’
No matter what the reasons for.
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore.

Great stuff -- everybody sing along!

Where to start with John Prine? Wow. I'm so glad he is recovering. He gave all of us quite a scare. Did you see him recently on Austin City Limits? Stellar. Okay, okay, this probably belongs in the PBS thread.

Mr. Prine also deserves credit for exposing the incredibly talented, Iris Dement, to a wider audience.

How did he know that someday a smile would be illegal? I'm gonna ask Bill Moyers.

The Austin City Limits was good, just way too short!

He also would tour with the late Steve Goodman.

I saw them both in St. Louis, sat in the 2nd row in a "theatre in the round" with a total capacity of about 1200. the 2nd row was probably about 15'-20' from where he sat on stage. It was awesome!

You know what's wrong with radio? Call any country station anywhere and request John Prine. Good luck.

I hope Bill Moyers keeps pretending to retire. Unlike Michael Jordan or Roger Clemens, he has never lost his edge and is still one of the best in the game.

That's a good tune too!

John Prine is one of only a select group of musicians or groups that I can honestly say "I've never heard a song from that I didn't like"

Creedence, Cat Stevens and Harry Chapin are a few of the others.

To democrats, terror is not a problem.

That's what Europeans thought in WWI and WWII.

We either fight them there...or fight them here.

Take your pick.

You can pick them from afar.
You can pick them in your car.
You can pick them when you dare.
You can pick them anywhere.
You can pick them with a rose
Because they're all up in your nose.

Sorry, too much Dr. Seuss on the brain.

>>>To democrats, terror is not a problem.

Whaaaaaat?

Democrats realize that the war in Iraq is a distraction from the real war on terror.

By attacking Saddam, Republicans proved that they think that Bad Guys In General = Terrorists. There's a difference there.

But then, Republicans think that Creationism is science, and Global Warming isn't.

It's just so much more convenient when you think you get to pick your own facts!

Herb: "We either fight them there...or fight them here."

Who are we fighting over there, and how do you recognize them? Better yet, who is responsible for most of the violence in Iraq?
