You can bet 91 bucks that Salem will stick the talk on 910 and flip to music on the FM that has been bleeding cash with right wing talk & praise the lord! Question is (let's be real, Salem will only go with a family friendly music format) what would you stick on there?

Salem does Oldies in some other markets.....but why compete with KHITS....Maybe the FM would be a different Christian Music format, softer AC Christian verses Hot AC/CHR thats on Spirit. Seattle has two-three Christian FMs with different music.

Remember, KTRO is only 1.6 Kw erp. They run the talk programming in MONO to improve the signal/noise ratio...it would be a fairly poor choice for music, IMHO.

Salem should put a Spanish format on 93.1!

How about moving 800 programming to 910, and turn 800 off for good.

Jr Tech, I'm not sure but I think they were talking about KPDQ-FM.

"Migrating" KPDQ-AM to 910 would actually make sense because it would solve the problem that they ran into years ago when they tried to upgrade the 800 nighttime signal: The not-in-my-backyarders said, "you need to put up another radio tower!!??? Noooo way!"

However, if they do move KTRO to 910, perhaps a country gospel format might go on 93.1. That would be music, it would be right-wing, and it would say Praise the Lord--Halleluyah!

Doubt they would move KPDQ-FM programming due to the translators they have for it.

Alfredo- KTRO could go contemporary Praise and Worship...although for my book it would get pretty repetitious because the songs repeat the same thing over and over again. I should know I play in a P&W band at church.

I don't think they'll change KTRO. I think they'll promote KPDQ moving to 910 for awhile and then change or remove 800 although they could keep 910 and 800 as a simulcast because there are weak areas for both signals. I can't see any advantage of simulcasting 910 with 93.1 for any period of time.

There is not much mention of "910". Most ID's just mention the FM frequency.
Could this mean the KTRO on 910 is just temporary? I would think they would be mentioning 910 more often if they are intending to make that permanent.

Perhaps because they could not quickly rig up to broadcast anything else? Like maybe they are using FM tuner Jerry-rigged at 910 transmitter building as the programming source?

KCMS is Spirit 105.3, a Christian Hot AC...also ranked 3rd in the market with W25-54, and top five with Adults 25-54!!!

Praise 106.5 is a Bellingham/Vancouver/Victoria station that is owned by Spirit and is more of a Praise & Worship format. As of now neither Air 1 or K-Love have a signal in the Seattle market.

Although this is very wild speculation, I wonder whether Salem might have the following plan: simulcast KTRO on AM for the next book or two to see which of the two signals gets the higher listenership. If more people are listening to the AM simulcast than the FM signal, sell off the FM station. First, see if they can start a bidding war between the different operators of Spanish stations. If this doesn't work, approach Crawford Broadcasting and try to sell the station to them.

I flipped a radio on today that was still set on 910. The first words I heard on this Christian based station were "oh my god". It wasn't a prayer.

Salem has been known to move talk or preaching formats from FM to AM, then sell the FM. Chicago comes to mind.

Could Salem be planning to sell 93.1 to Bustos? The FM signal would be a nice upgrade for "La Gran D" KGDD.

Semoochie,

Regarding what you heard on KKSN/KTRO... Although it's a conservative talk format owned by a company with Christian broadcasting roots, it is secular.

Semoochie, 800 AM does reach Salem in the daytime. 910 doesn't because of it directional signal and inteference from KSHO (920 AM).

DD, this must have been on a different thread because I don't see it here. I think you're talking about my theory of what KSHO might be protecting. When I said KISN, I meant the 1kw non-directional daytime signal before 1966. 790 does the same with KPDQ. When KISN went to 5kw, they had to protect Lebanon.

They are getting ready to sell it. It would be better financially for them. Basically keep your billing a make anywhere between $18-$28m on the FM. You don't lose billing and you get to reduce your debt service. It makes too much sense.

Is the station really worth between $18-$28 million? The station only has 1550 Watts.

KPDQ FM reduced its signal by fifty percent to get KTRO in Portland. Now it wants to sell it only after two years. Does that mak sense?

The possible sale makes sense if they make money on the deal. It covers the Portland Metro and has a tall enough tower. Its more about location location location. Does anyone have an idea what billing KISN was doing when the format was on FM?
