I should be in bed by now, but I made the mistake of turning on the shortwave radio and listening to 3840 kHz, the HAM frequency where Art Bell used to hang out. What buffoonery!!? I heard too guys saying nice things about CBers, and apparently that is too taboo a subject for some of purists. Several people repeatedly tried to jam the communication by keying up dead carriers, and there's one guy who keeps coming on randomly, laughing on top of the people who are talking. The s-bomb got dropped at one point! A few minutes ago, one of the people was speculating whether Art Bell might be behind some of the jamming (he thought it was unlikely).

Yeh! 3840 Lower Side Band is sure active this morning. Did you hear the Alien? Or what the Ham's were calling those strange noises on the frequency with them. Must have been someone screwing with some kind of sound device.

Yep, there were two aliens on last night! One made the funny sounds and another came looking for his "fellow alien." He talked about some kind of an anal probe! Please pardon the typos in my original post. No, I wasn't drunk. It was just a bit later than I should have stayed up!

Remember when holding a ham license used to be something special and most hams were super responsible individuals. I haven't kept up with what's going on, but it sort of sounds like the idiots may have taken over that enterprise also.

These changes in amateur radio have been very gradual. I can remember hearing similar shenanigans on 80m back in the early 1990s. I think what might have brought out the chaos last night was the possibilty of a celebrity ham (Art Bell) jumping in. For years, HAMs have worried about former CBers becoming HAMs and degrading the on-air decorum of the HAM bands. However, I think that the bad CBers have migrated to the Internet for the most part, and when they want to talk, they now use cell phones.
