One thing I don't EVER want to be called is a Californian.

Here is a good example why;

Politics is open to everyone. A big part of the problem. A law how to discipline your child is, yes, totally, and I mean "totally" California. We already are starting to see laws about what we can eat. What's next? Laws that regulate when and how we use the bathroom? Give it a rest!

Skybill, I just don't see how one legislator's introduction of a bill reflects badly on the entire state? Surely, we could find a wacky proposal from a state politician (from either party) in pretty much every state in the union and say, "Gee, I'm glad I don't live in Arizona/Alabama/etc." So why tar an entire state because of one person's wacky proposal?

This is crap.

The only time a swat on the ass makes any sense at all is when they are very young! After that, you can reason with them, and other dicipline makes sense.

Sheesh.

Honestly I lost respect for Californians when they voted for Ahnold a few years ago for governor. Too bad the Democrats couldn't come up with a good candidate to oppose him. Yeah, I know Ahnold has been pretty liberal, but I still don't respect the fact that his only qualifications for being governor were being a famous movie star.

He's done a pretty good job for no qualifications. I know you'd prefer some bleeding heart liberal who could finish the state off, but it looks like you got Arnold.

The brain damage came from spankings. :-)

I suspected that's where Californians had their brains.

Spent the first 6 years of my life in California, the rest in Portland.

This is such a subjective argument.

We spanked our kids only a few times and usually one swat was enough. Our daughter receiving 80 percent of the spankings. I hated having to do it. But there was always the follow up conversation, hugs and then eventually laughter.

I am glad to be beyond that stage. I prefer the reasoning, or attempted reasoning.

I am actually surprised how well Arnold has done as Governor. I still think he's a bit of male pig with his comments about women, but he has shown that he can take the heat.

Craig, No. I've never lived in California. However, I've spent a fair amount of time in and around the Bay area as our regional technical office used to be in Livermore.

I've also driven between Vancouver and Livermore several times.

Don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful areas in California. The area around Lake Shasta is fantastic as is the area on Hwy 50 driving into the Tahoe area. The Bay area has some cool places too. And those are just the parts I've seen.

3 of my technicians live in the Bay area and they are great people.

Andrew, all I'm really saying is that I don't ever want to live there. It's too liberal of a state for my particular liking. Not to mention the fact that it's way too expensive to live there.

I don't harbor any ill for the people of California, it's just their politicians are for the most part waco! (As evidenced above!)

Waco, Texas?

Oh, you meant "Wacko"?

...And I'd pick California over Texas in a Nano-second (see other thread). Look at what they had for a Governor. 'Nuff said.

Yea, I meant wacko! Darn spell checker won't check for the right use of a word!

Mrs. M, I guess if I had to pick between the two, I'd pick CA also. Although it would have to be northern CA around Yreka or so. Way too hot and muggy in TX. I'm just glad I don't have to pick! We've lived in WA for 11 1/2 years and I don't ever plan on moving.

“I am actually surprised how well Arnold has done as Governor. I still think he's a bit of male pig with his comments about women”

Chris Taylor- hilarious. By that standard, though, Arnold fits in Perfectly as a high power, high profile politician. He’s a pig when it comes to women- at least he doesn’t lie about it!—heh, heh.

Ladies and gents, California, as a whole- is turning into a WASTELAND. Who the hell would want to live in a state where you CAN’T discipline your kid, can’t read traffic signs because they might be written in on of 5 foreign languages ( English not being one of them) , can’t drive anywhere because it’s a constant traffic jam, live amongst snobs
( ever try visiting one of So Cal’s costal cities? They DON’T want you there), can’t drink the water, and are forced to pay skyrocketing taxes to subsidize the floodgate of illegal immigrants? California is a PRIME example of when a far left ideology get’s control of a major entities government like, California: It ALL goes to hell!!
I was born in Huntington Beach, CA- btw- and almost my entire family has gotten out of CA, and into Oregon. My cousin Patrick and his wife just recently moved to Oregon-after both spending their entire lives in So Cal.

I DO like North Cali, though.

Arnold, as a governor, has been a disappointment. Grey Davis was a failure.

But, you know what? The usual suspects on this forum (and elsewhere) have their heads so far into the sand they won't learn anything by observing this. That's what so frightening about the far left.
