15-30K part-time. Hmmm. That's quite a wide spread. Anyone on the low end of that would most certainly have to have another job, which is basically unworkable for an "events manager". And since it is part-time, my guess is a job that will take those hours right up to the max., w/o benefits. Not to mention how much harder these type of jobs will be post-Entercom Sacramento! Another radio job that is NOT too good to be true!

Been listening to Jamz tonight. Golly, the Baka Boys show sounds good. It's a shame the local format can't sound like this all day long. The local format plays a lot of crap that no one cares about. ie. JayZ's new album and other rappers that I don't even know.

94-9's music programming is right on to what a rhythmic chr should be. It's obvious they don't have budget for local talent ...but then again for a start up station the more music quantity works in their favor as they are building audience as well as advertisers...wish their signal strength was better. KDUK's night jock voice tracks a lot of the times are usually the wrong VT's playing between songs.

The low end is to attract the base for the station: The University of Oregon student base. Those who want to work making 15K part-time, while going to college, can and probably will do this.

94.9 scored a 2.4 (12+) in the book, which is about what I predicted. That's not bad for a 99 watt signal! Now, I believe the station could do even better with an improved variety of researched gold...

Jamz did okay in the ratings but playing Outkast's So Fresh & Clean everyday is probably driving some people back to KDUK. That song wasn't one of their bigger hits. I'd like to hear some more older hits like 112, BIG, Blaque and Mary J Blige.

Jamz surprised many people, including myself. I don't want to speak for anyone, however, many in this market, myself included, didn't think that a hip hop format would survive in this small market. A 2.4 rating is certainly nothing to scoff at.

While, I won't say that Jamz has "made it," in this market just yet, I have to eat my words and say, that Jamz has achieved a respectable rating and a solid presence in the Eugene market. Kudos.

Shouldn't be a surprise P-Spect. Hip-Hop now knows no ethnic boundries. Its' crossing into the anglo youth market happen long time ago at least 20 years. Its a format that has its audience even in small markets like the Peoples Republic of Eugene.

Radio921: I completely agree with you. Hip-hop knows no ethnic boundaries. It's no surprise that hip-hop has proven it's market power in every corner of the world. This isn't new. Eugene has had many hip hop MC's waiting for a hip hop station for years now.

My initial concern for launching a hip hop station in Eugene was based on the market size, not on whether hip-hop would be popular, etc. The young market was dominated by KDUK and KDUK was starting to sound more hip-hop when Jamz launched.

As I said in my above comment, I was wrong! Jamz has shown an impressive ratings start.

Anyone else heard that My Girl Got A Girlfriend song on 94.9? Does anyone actually like that song? 94.9 seems to be taking too many risks with unproven artists, which is making it real easy for KDUK to dominate.

Bobby Brown and other cheesy artists from the past are fun to hear on KDUK's old school lunch. 94.9 doesn't ever play anything from the nineties, which is why listeners keep coming back to KDUK.

94.9 would be wise to stick with what they are doing as they are still very new. Play the hits and let KDUK play Bobby Brown, Marky Mark etc. Gold titles don't have to be strictly from the late 80's or early 90's

"And I also know, major artists aren't going to come to lil ol' Eugene. We're too small of a market."

Like U2 at Autzen right?

Really I'm not convinced it has to do so much with market size. I can name several markets much smaller than Eugene that continually attract major artists.

In the 70s Autzen was the host of music festivals with major attractions, and that did not include the Grateful Dead.

In the 80s the Hult Center hosted many top bands. Huey Lewis, Bangles, Howard Jones, Heart, Eddie Money, Adam Ant...then things changed in the 90s.

What happened? Okay the U of O has made it nearly impossible for Autzen but that isn't the real reason.

Today Eugene seems to be a stopover place to perform gigs for gas money so they can make it to PDX and be the opening act for a major band.

Rant on............

I've heard that if you're not a current client, the ad company that does the bus advertising panels takes them down when someone else buys the space - which can leave old ads up for a while.

No need to apologize Qpatrickedwards...savor the good times...

And Night Ranger didn't need to appear just because of the Veneta drummer...70s and 80s Eugene music scene did attract headliners.

But few visit Eugene these days, even with the Hult and the McDonald.

First Let me say that forever I will find Greg Charles' comments witty and amusing. Radio is still not the same without you. I think that 94.9 is doing well to carve a home in the market. I'm okay with PK and the playhouse. The syndicated shows sound good, imaging is on par, but here are the things that do not work for me. First Dan Nims (no matter how talented he may be "HIP" is something he is more likely to have replaced then portray on the radio) He just sounds strange. The rest of the energy from the dayparts and "talent" seem to be lacking in comparison to the syndicated feature shows they are using. Eugene's Hip Hop and Party Station. After the playhouse where is the party before the "Big Boy" show?

I think that there has to be some talent in the area that could at least add some life to the station. Either young or some that sound younger than the before mentioned Pappy Nims. I'd even vote for Greg Charles to do a shift. He'd at least be prep'd and entertaining. Even if he is getting up there Any Idea what equipment they are using?
